Does anyone have a way I can identify what type of stock stereo system my car is running. I got the car at 100K (no window sticker) and don't know what I am working with for upgrades. I also would like to find a wiring diagram for this system. I suppose to upgrade I can just take everything apart and chase down the wiring but was looking for a way to be more exact when buying components to upgrade. Please advise.

If your rear doors have speakers in them then you have the BOSE system. Otherwise, you just have the standard Delco system.

Simple enough.....no Bose. Anyone have schematics?

are you aware of how complicated the 00+ system is? It is NOT just wires going from the HU to the speakers. I have the FSM in front of me. There are 8 pages of just schematics.

Bottom line, not planning on taking out the HU. I'm just wanting to hyjack the system for moderate upgrades. I need to know about two things. Amps? Speakers Wiring? That should decomplicate it some.

Good luck with anything you try to do. I'm a car audio nut myself (if you couldn't already tell from my posts) but even I am scared to touch my 2000. I had a 94 that was a piece of cake to work on but the 00 is an extremely complicated and difficult system to work with. I would double check everything before you do any type of work at all because I've read stories about how things turn bad really quickly.

Shouldn't be too bad as long as you plan ahead. The schematics are essential to that planning. I only plan on utilizing a High/Low impedence adapter to hook up an amp (for now) to run a sub. The 00+ has battery under back seat :bwoohoo: so that makes the ground and power easier than I have ever experienced. Only thing I need to figure out is how to switch on and off. Should be able to find something to piggy back on, probably an ignition switch line.

The sub should take the bass burdon off the standard system and allow a cleaner sound at high volume. Of course, you can only do so much with stock speakers.

Yeah, sounds good. Please do a write up or a build log of things as you go along. We could really use that type of information here for the 00+ crowd. Good luck!

I did a full installation on my 2001 Aurora (same wiring as the Bonneville.) It's not too bad once you know your way around the car really! I will make a more detailed post tomorrow morning when I get a chance. I'm on my way out right now though! Just know that it's entirely possible to do though without TOO much of a hassle. Are you amping both front and rear speakers? What do you plan on doing exactly. The more you tell me you want, the more advice I can give you. :) I also know of a switched ignition wire under the dash that I can find the colors for. I just need some time to do some digging first!

P.S. I've done it both ways in a 2000+ Bonneville/Aurora. Both with an aftermarket stereo, and factory. Both systems were fully amped.

EDIT:

For me, I tapped into the factory wiring on the kick panels on the driver's side, and passenger side. You will want to find the wire harness that goes through the door jam and into the door. Trace the wires and go by feel to know where they go.
For the driver's side, the wire colors you want are:
Tan +
Gray -

For the passenger side:
Lt Green +
DK Green -

For switched power, you can always use the cigarette lighter + on the dash. That is switched on with the ignition, and remains on for ten minutes after ignition off. I'm not able to find my schematics for the under-dash harness that I was going to tell you about for the switched accessory power. The CIG lighter will work fine though.

FYI this is what the front harness looks like and how I tapped into mine.

Works well and beats tearing apart the dash.

Just wanting to add an amp to the system so I can run a 12" sub in the trunk. Not wanting to upgrade everything or loose the conviniences of the stock system......yet.
