I have been told by many gm fans that you can take the computer chip out of a GXP and put it into the 1997 Bonneville SSE(non super) to increase performance in HP and to cut out the speed limiter. If so does anyone know exactly what GXP you need to find to do this.

Thanks

Or...

You could spend $100 at INTENSE and do it the right way.

The GXP route won't work. One thing, it has a different engine and trans. Plus all the body electronics. Wherever you heard that is clueless.

Just get a ZZP or INTENSE PCM and be set. only $100 or so or $200 if you dont do the core charge

i bought a Intense PCM for my 97 Bonneville SE. Best performance upgrade for that car. Just order the basic tune, switch the Knock module on the side of your pcm (it has 2 torx head screws on it) and put it in your car. Best 100 bucks you'll ever spend. I spent 150 on mine though cuz i had never switched a PCM and wanted to keep my old one in case something went wrong.

Thanks for all the help Intense looks like the way I'm going to go for the money.

The only other question I have on it is will this affect my factory security system as I am already haveing problems with the light staying on all the time?

I suggest you get a conversation going with the great guys at INTENSE. They are usually very helpful and can answer most, if not all, your questions.

IIRC the upgrade will not work for my '96, correct?

Depends on how much money you want to spend.

Here is the deal. There are 2 major PCM tuners out in the world...HP Tuners, and the DHP Power Tuner. The DHP unit can program 96 PCMs, but since DHP no longer makes them, they are harder to come by than an HP Tuner. HP Tuners start at the 1997 model year, so there is no support for the 1996 on their end.

Now...here's the kicker.

1996 and 1997 PCMs are IDENTICAL with the exception of the OSID (operating system). Same pinouts, same external dimensions, same part numbers. See where I am going with this?

You 1996ers could run an INTENSE PCM (but ONLY if you are L36) meant for a 1997 vehicle. BUT, you will need a 97 PCM as core since INTENSE will not be able to do anything with the 96 PCM due to the OSID. Have them program out the VATS, and life will be good.

i have a 96 SE, and was wondering if that would be a big boost for someone who hasn't done much to his car. would it be smarter to get that AFTER i did the FWI and exhaust, or doesn't it matter? or wouldn't it make much of a difference at all because i'm not sc'd?

Every little bit helps...but I would go with the intake first, and put on a ported lower intake manifold when you do the LIM gaskets (and you WILL do them at some point). Once the manifold issue is done, then the PCM idea should be visited.
