So sorry if this has been addressed. I searched but didn't seem to find what I needed.

Question is: Is there a way to swap the GXP bonnie brakes to a 89 H-body? I ran in to a GXP with the two from calipers and most of the rest of the suspension and brakes

Unless there is another GXP at that yard, I wouldn't trust a single suspension or braking piece off that car. Like I said, metal does weird things when it gets hot, and I guarantee the seals are cooked in those calipers.

For the fronts, no for a few reasons.
The bolt battern for the caliper bracket and the knuckle are different.
The caliper bracket on the 89 bolts up from behind the knuckle, the F/00 from the front.
The F/00+ caliper bracket is threaded as is the 89 knuckle.

This pic is of a 95 knuckle and an 98-02 F-body caliper/bracket which is he same bolt pattern as the GXP.

SO if you did the w-body front swap with 00 spindles you would I assume..but question is are they any better than the f-bodys?

Fbody calipers are dual-piston? Correct?

Yes. The difference is that the GXP has room for a 13" rotor and the F-bodies have 12" rotors.

Id take dual piston over an extra 0.5" of usable rotor area.

Both are dual piston, Jake.

Poor pic, but:

I'd like mine grab a little harder for sure. I'd really like to convert my rear drums to disc.

Just asking obvious questions....

What diameter are the FBody pistons?

spoiledred94 I have been working with a guy on the lesabre t-type forum to develop a "conversion kit" to go to rear disc on my h-body. I would assume it would work for yours as well

The GXP's 13" rotor adds leverage in addition to surface area.

LS1 F-body brake caliper pistons are 1.75" in OD.

The only reason I haven't done a rear disc conversion yet is because it would more than likely put my pedal travel into the new MC zone. I already have more pedal travel due to the F-bodies and going from wheel cylinders to pistons in the rear might be too far.

All you really need to do is sandwich a water jetted caliper mount (probably costs less than $50 if you have a CAD drawing) between the wheel bearing and the knuckle, space the caliper bracket accordingly, and replace the rear proportioning valves with adjustable.

I know of at least one lesabre guy, and one 6000 guy that have done the rear disk conversion but they didn't do anything for rear proportioning which is a waste IMO.

A conversion "kit"? That would be something I'd be very interested in. Would it still allow for the ABS?

That I do not know for sure, I would assume so but not 100%. The person I am working with has found a car that has rear calipers that mount up with a simple mounting bracket, So you would need the rear discs, calipers, and the parking brake assembly form the junction point under the drivers side. Once I have more I will post on here and we can clarify if it indeed will work for other cars and years, but I assume if it works for his olds and my T it would work for the earlier boniness as well.

This. Especially the proper portioning bit, otherwise you'll be worse off.

It's probably the 6000 STE rear mounting bracket.

Eary 90s F-bodies have a similar mounting bracket but the bolt hole spacing looks different.

The one thing we are trying to iron out is the proportioning aspect. I don't want a ton of pedal play.

The bracket would be custom made.

Pedal play and fluid volume moved lies in the master cylinder.

Summit has adjustable proportioning valves. You need to replace the stock valves with these to raise and adjust the pressure going to the rear. Caliper pistons operate at a higher pressure than wheel cylinders.

I think he was thinking, due to the small size of the rear disc set up that it wouldn't need one, but might as well be safe apposed to sorry.

I understand you guys are still figuring this out -and thanks- but labor aside what would this basically cost including getting parts made and using used parts wherever you could?
