This may be more suitable for the Lounge, but it does deal with my other ride so I thought I'd drop it in here.

I typically remove any trace of dealerships on cars I own because I don’t feel the need to be a rolling billboard – that’s how petty I am. I am going to make an exception on the 57 Chevy, however, as it appears to have spent its entire life in Utah. The original dealership was Basin Chevrolet in Vernal, UT.


That dealership no longer exists, but I managed to dig up a couple pictures of the place:

The place I pirated this image from claimed it was circa 1955. Based on the cars in the showroom, I think their dating is off a little.


Not sure when this one was taken, pretty close to the same era, however.


I don’t know when Basin Chevrolet ceased. My rudimentary search didn’t come up with anything more than these two pics.

I was looking at the Basin Chevrolet pics again and that dude at the far left in the bottom picture - did he fall in the grease pit, or what? Like I want him pulling my car into the lube bay for an oil change!

Shouldn't hurt the seats if it was like my grandpa's 1957 Chevy.
He had that bubble wrap on both the front and back seats.
Hot as hell in summer and cold as hell in winter.

I am also anal on dealer tags or stickers.
When I ordered my 1974 Monte Carlo I had the order form marked "no dealer sticker on car"
When I went to pick it up it had a dealer sticker on it.
I told them I will not take the car until that sticker is off.
Lucky it was a sticker not a metal tag with pins where they drill 2 holes in the trunk and hold it on with 2 nuts.
That would have been a problem.
I told the salesman if you want to knock off 5k off the car (car listed for 5500) I would consider their dealer tag on the car.
Needless to say I drove off with no dealer tag on the car.

Yeah, I know that stuff. Clear vinyl, basically. In the summer you'd stick right to that stuff. I'll bet, in the long run, it did more harm than good.

Fortunately today's car dealers are cheap and so is stick-on vinyl lettering, so that's what they're going with these days. The place I bought my wife's Civic stuck their moniker on the deck lid in white vinyl lettering. First thing I did when I got it home was grab the heat gun and pull that stuff off. I'll have to check, but I would venture a guess that the badge on my 57 is the bolt-on type. In this case I'm quite ok with it.

Now that I think about it, I'm running around with Pontiac badges all over my car so I'm a rolling billboard for Pontiac. But somehow that's different than the dealer badging.

The weird thing now a days is that you can't tell what the model or make is.
It seems like most new cars have nothing on the sides and very little badging on the front or back of the vehicle.
Almost like they are embarrassed to say what it is.
Like the 2000 &2001 Bonnevilles had a nice badge on them.
Now my 2005's just say SLE.
Thinking of getting the old badges and putting them on.
In my opinion the old style looked a lot better.
