Re: Running Lean, No CEL
They sprayed down the engine to find leaks. Could not find any. Rigged a vacuum line up from the throttle to fpr because of a cracked hose, but it was not leaking enough for the idle to change. They determined the fuel pump, filter, and motor vac should be done. The filter was changed when the new ...

Re: Running Lean, No CEL
They want to replace the fuel pump, fuel filter, and do a motor vac after those two are replaced. What do you think?

Re: Running Lean, No CEL
Was going to spray the engine with carb cleaner, but I finally got a check engine light. PO171. It only stayed on for an hour, but it was enough time for me to go to OReilly and get it scanned. It is at the shop now. Hopefully they can figure out what is causing the lean mixture.

Re: Running Lean, No CEL
No, I have not checked the coils in over a year. When I was having the no start issue that ended up being the timing chain, I had the icm tested. It passed on the NAPA tester. I made them test it 6 times to get it nice and hot. Never failed. My only concern is that there is no CEL. Everything is ...

Re: Running Lean, No CEL
The catalytic converter was just replaced two weeks ago. Are there bad cats outta the box? Why is there no check engine light for it now when there was one before?
Thanks,
Aly

Running Lean, No CEL
Hello all again. I was the Bonneville with hard/long start a year ago. To give you some background on the car, my last post was about the timing chain causing my last issue. Well, three weeks after I had the timing chain replaced, the engine blew up. I let it sit until August when I decided to ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
I didn't know that my car would be a first lol. The mechanic said that the chain was so loose that it was making the timing so far off that it would not start. He didn't even have to tension the dampner to remove it. He also said that it was pretty clean inside. Only small amount of sludge which ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
I know it has been over a month since the last reply, but she is back on the road! It was the timing chain. I took it to a shop to have it done because I really did not have the space or time to work on her for an extended period of time. The timing chain was so loose, the mechanic could turn the ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
We were thinking of buying a junk yard ICM and doing a compression test before starting the tear down of the timing chain. After the shop told me to throw away the car, I trust their diagnosis less because it makes me feel like they wanted my car. Thank you for the advice. Once it warms up a little ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
This is an update for anyone who may have had this problem with their Bonneville and for anyone who was curious about her progress. After some additional testing and reading we decided to change the crank position sensor. We did not have the tools necessary and where she was sitting would have been ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
What is the forums opinion on Bostech fuel injectors? The mechanic that I take my vehicles to for things I cannot fix suggested them. He said try rarely had a problem with them and if they did, they took care of the problem immediately. The code that poped up was P0134, P0449, and P0305. The P0134 ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
He said he checked them and tried to see if they would move in the plastic part of the connector. Everything was tight with no corrosion. The icm is a little dirty so I plan on carefully cleaning it before we put it back on and it feels like there is dielectric grease on the back of the plate. We ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
Okay, everything is back together. Will not start. Cranks and sounds like it wants to start, but will not start. Checked firing order and its correct. Checked pressure at the regulator....52 PSI with key on, but drops to 0 PSI (1 sec/10 PSI until 20 PSI and slows down under 20 PSI) and builds ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
Just to give an update. We are now Day 3 on this mini project. The coolant elbows broke off inside their holders, but a propane torch helped them loose. Luck has it that my hands were small enough that I did not have to remove the cross over for the exhaust. YAY! :bwoohoo: Putting her back together ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
Thank you for the good link. I have to call them to get an estimate on shipping. If its outrageous I will ship it to a family member and have them ship it up which is cheaper than them shipping direct sometimes.

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
So I want to give you all an update. I was about to perform the fuel pressure test yesterday because I had to buy a new tester. It has been in the single digits and negatives all week and yesterday it was -1 when I was going to test. Went to go start the bonneville when an expolsion happened. Didn't ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
I was thinking FPR, but I was not sure. I am going to check the IAC, FPR, and fuel pressure when I get off work. I will hopefully have some more information later on tonight or tomorrow. Thank you all for the help so far.

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
I have not seen the fuel filter, but the shop said it looked like it was recently replaced. I bought a new one that I will eventually put on because every part I have taken off is a cheap off brand. I have taken the vacuum line off the FPR and it smelled faintly like fuel not strong. I have noticed ...

Re: 2000 Bonneville Hard/Long Start
I have had it checked when it was in the shop a month ago for a bearing and chasis parts, but I will have to check it again. They said that the fuel pressure was speratic and thought it had something to do with a replacement line the PO had installed. I had the MAP sensor cleaned when it was at the ...
