Re: Ground for PCM

Well, so far no change. I don't know if it would be a good idea to replace the ground splice pack below the ICM with something else? I cleaned up all the grounds I could find. The only one that looked remotely bad was the bolt to chassis right from the battery. The threads had some rust, but likely ...

Ground for PCM

Been having some occasional issues with the car losing power/ stalling/ racing idle for short periods that disappear in a few minutes. Didn't throw codes so through the course of time I replaced the MAF, idle control valve, throttle position sensor. Just the other day, it stalled and threw me a ...

Re: CUSTOM INTAKES

With the horrible rain in Chicago these past couple days, I just undid my tubing from the TB and ran like that. Also, if you were to go so deep into water that you would submerge your filter, the car would die from air starvation before it would suck water in.

On the contrary. My wife had been ...

Re: Aerochamber muffler 5yrs later

Heck, since my front bumper got smashed I fitted a bumper off a 4th gen Mustang that someone was throwing out- amazed how well it fit in the headlights and wheels. .

Aerochamber muffler 5yrs later

I believe its been about 5yrs since I installed my aerochamber muffler. I have stock piping including the cat and resonator, and it sounded great. Then, about a year ago it got louder and started to drone inside my vehicle. I never really looked into the issue until a few weeks ago when I put it on ...

Re: Easily accessed power source

I ran into the same issue. Since I also didn't want to tear the entire dash apart to source an ignition lead, I wired it to the cigarette lighter. Then, in the fuse box under the hood, the fuse that runs the cigarette lighter has 2 positions- one for always on or the other switches off after 10 mins ...

Re: Power, Ground, ACC in harness for aftermarket head unit?

The 00+ Bonnevilles use a data bus system for their radio wiring rather than traditional wiring. So, Best Buy can run the new leads to the radio and you will lose your chime (doors open, seat belt, etc) or they can install an adapter such as PAC C2R-GM32R to make for an easier plug-n-play install ...

Re: radar detector

Radar detectors can be a waste of money, as harofreak indicated. Honestly, $100 detectors will miss a lot or warn you when its too late. You have to spend a lot of money to get one that works good and picks up the most radar and laser signals. That Escort 8500 was a really good unit, and pricey. So ...

Re: Component speakers for 01 bonneville

With components, I'd say your best bet is to go to the shop and play with some. I have some MTX 8000 6.5's that I never would have considered a few years ago until I listened to them.

Re: 2K+ owners. running power wires

The reason the manufacturers advise you to initially charge the capacitor with a resistor in series is to limit the current. When a capacitor has no charge, the initial charge basically follows Ohm's law as the capacitor acts like a short, which would mean current = voltage/resistance. Without a ...

Re: 03 Monsoon rear full range or subs?

You could add a resistor, but I wouldn't. Two reasons: when you add the resistor, it will share approximately half the load. So that means you will need to source a high wattage resistor (10w or more) so it won't burn up. This isn't something you can walk into RadioShack and pick up. Then, since the ...

Re: 2K+ owners. running power wires

With the battery under the rear seat, you have an ideally short power cable run as well as a prime location for a ground. I ran both lines straight to the battery.

Auto-leveling issues

This post is just an FYI for anyone interested.

My 04 SE has been riding a bit low in the back for some time now. As a result, my rear tires have been wearing out on the inner edge. My first attempt to repair the issue was to replace the original air assist struts with some Monroe replacements ...

Re: 87 LE won't start

I wasn't sure if you had to pull the motor to change the sensor or not. And it is moot point now as he has already junked the car. Oh well. I didn't say I didn't know what coils are, I just am not familiar with the older 3800 coils. They were all in a single unit just like the OEM I removed- are ...

Re: 87 LE won't start

I'm not sure what the coils are. The replacement pack was just a $55 generic from O'Reilly's. I am leaning towards a crank sensor too as it is turning over, but no start. Would I be able to replace the crank sensor with the motor in the car?

My father-in-law gave in and bought a 95 Corsica 4 ...

I checked there is rocker movement. I also tested for codes and there were none. How would I check the timing? Or iss there anything else that it clould be?

Re: 87 LE won't start

Thanks for the ideas. It has 103,000mi, so it is 60k less than my 04. I'm jealous.

I'll check for rocker movement. I assume there are separate cam gears for each side of the motor? So if there is movement on the front half, could the back half be out of commission?

I'll try starting with it ...

87 LE won't start

My father in law's Bonneville isn't starting. Mother in law said she saw a little smoke under the hood coming from the catalytic converter and thinks that is the problem- right. To prove that theory wrong I tried starting it without the tailpipe hooked up and of course no change. It squirted up gas ...
