Re: Hit a curb...positive camber. Suspension damage?

UPDATE: Everything is great now, but what a TERRIBLE experience it was getting it done. The idiot who was originally working on the car was recommended to me by one of my employees. He was cheap and supposedly fast and knowledgeable, so I went with him based on the personal recommendation.

Long ...

Re: Hit a curb...positive camber. Suspension damage?

Sorry, I meant CASTER, not camber.

The mechanic is now saying that the strut "sleeve" is bent...not sure what he means by that, but hes indicating that its not a big deal.

UPDATE: Hit a curb...positive camber. Suspension damage?

UPDATE: OK, got the subframe installed, and had to replace the strut and a steering knuckle. I haven't seen it personally yet, but the mechanic says that the measurements are now off much worse than they were before he performed the work. I believe he said the camber is now 5 degrees, and before it ...

Re: Hit a curb...positive camber. Suspension damage?

OK - got it on a rack today and had it inspected by a mechanic that I trust. There is definite visual deformation of the subframe at the control arm mounting point. I'll post some pics asap, but it's basically pushed in an inch or so at the mounting point. It doesn't seem to be structurally ...

Re: Hit a curb...positive camber. Suspension damage?

Yep - it's for the Aurora, sorry for the confusion. Took it to another shop and they are looking at it more closely Monday. They don't seem to think it's major at all, but say there may be some slight deformation at the control arm mounting point. The car drives fine, with the exception of a little ...

Re: Hit a curb...positive camber. Suspension damage?

Got an estimate from the body shop today. They want $691 to bend the subframe back and do a 4 wheel alignment.

I'm pretty sure I can get a subframe online for about $350 and have a shop install it, what would the labor be like on a job like that? Probably pretty high...

I still just don't buy the ...

Hit a curb...positive camber. Suspension damage?

Hit a wet/icy spot going about 15-20mph and the left front tire hit a curb this weekend. My tires were pretty bad...in fact, I had an appointment today for new Uniroyal Tiger Paw Tourings. I was hoping I just knocked the alignment out, but the tire shop says that I bent the subframe slightly. They ...

Re: OnStar Antenna.. able to use as CB Antenna?

You should be able to find a very cheap adapter that goes from BNC to whatever the CB connection is, probably $10 or so. Also, you can replace the OnStar whip with a CB whip available at RadioShack very easily. They make through-the-glass CB antennas that use the same screw-in portion as the OnStar ...

Re: New Aurora Maintenance Challenges

UPDATE: Replaced the passenger front wheel bearing. It's nice and quiet now, and the Service Stability message on the DIC is gone.

Also replaced the fuel level sender piece per Han's video. Works PERFECTLY and saved me a couple hundred. Very easy procedure for those of you with wonky fuel gauges ...

New Aurora Maintenance Challenges (UPDATES)

When I bought the Aurora I knew it had a few minor issues - fuel sender, passenger wheel hub/bearing, and it seems the power steering is bad as well. It also looks like they replaced the stock exhaust...seems to have only been from the mufflers back though. They actually sawed off the tips of the ...

Re: Bonneville Club .com Stickers??? do the sell them???

I wasn't trying to be a jerk lol, I'm just saying if we add one of the H/C/K body cars other than the Bonneville, we'd end up having people wanting all of them added. I don't think it's a bad idea at all, just might be tough to fit all of those vehicle names on one decal - hell, I'd like one that ...

Re: Bonneville Club .com Stickers??? do the sell them???

Probably wouldn't work Marik...if we did that, we'd have to add Aurora and LeSabre also, as they're all on the same body. An argument could even be made for the Seville and Park Avenue to be listed.

Re: Delayed exit lighting (Archon ol' buddy ol' pal haha)

That's exactly what I want - about 30 seconds of light. The Aurora does use all 4 headlamps for high beams. There is no Twilight Sentinel, in the traditional sense in an Aurora. In fact, there isn't even a dial for adjusting it on the dash - however, in the DIC there is an option for "exterior ...

Delayed exit lighting (Archon ol' buddy ol' pal haha)

I figure you're probably the guy to pose this question to: Apparently the 01-03' Olds Aurora's doesn't have the delayed exit lighting found in virtually any halfway decent vehicle for the past 20 years. Even my 92' Crown Victoria had it! :banghead: I really liked having the headlamps stay on for 30 ...

Re: My new baby!

Actually Ed, the Bonnie is still floating around, albeit damaged. She's sitting in the garage at the moment, biding her time, awaiting her ultimate fate.

The seats are the same as the 03+ Bonneville. I'm assuming with the discontinuation of the Aurora in 03 they had surplus seats and just went with ...

My new baby!

My new 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0, 80,000 miles, loaded with all options except for the Bose system and chrome wheels. It needs a cleaning and waxing pretty badly, but overall it's in great condition.

These pics were taken at the McKinley Presidential Monument in Canton, OH.

Re: 2002 Aurora

Made the purchase today, :beerchug: and just got home from a great, relaxing drive through the tri-state area (Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio). Took about 2 hours to get to Pittsburgh from Canton...went a more scenic route, and then got trapped in traffic at the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

Pics to come ...

I'm purchasing a 2002 Aurora 4.0 with 81k on it tomorrow. Driving out to Pittsburgh area to get it. Price is $4,500. Thoughts?
