Re: Engine knock/rattle noise

I PULLED the belts off the engine, ran it, the noise is still there. I also checked the harmonic balancer to see if I can move it at all with my hand. I was probably able to move it ~1/4" total, probably 1/8" either way from center. So what's normal for movement on one of these?

Anybody got any ...

Re: Engine knock/rattle noise

Also, the engine vibrates ever so slightly, and the knocking sound is coming from the passenger side of the engine. Standing up top since the car is on the ground, I can put a long rod on the motor mount on the pass side and hear the knock/rattle the loudest. I've checked at multiple points along ...

Re: Engine knock/rattle noise

Well, I went and checked that, rubber is not torn, but it seems likes it might be loose almost, ie I can turn the SC pulley a few degrees by hand, and want the crank pulley move as well, but not the solid piece behind the ribbing, that also turns while the engine is on....

Re: Engine knock/rattle noise

Yea, it's definitely rod bearings, or something of that sort. Drained the oil and had a yellowish color come out right away, but only a tiny bit, but it ran like oil and not sludge-like when water gets in there. Ran oil down my finger, had purple rubber goes on, and I could see metal particulate in ...

Re: Engine knock/rattle noise

Another note, LIM gaskets were replaced before I purchased the car, which was roughly 20k miles ago. Never had any knocking of any kind until now.

Engine knock/rattle noise

This noise just developed not too long ago. I have been letting the car sit for winter, so it's been getting minimal driving miles, but I have been starting it up every other week to operating temp.

Back in December I changed the valve cover gaskets and the oil pan gasket since one, or all, of them ...

Re: Rear driver coil spring perch rotted; need advice

I'm starting to think that this car is getting more and more expensive than what it's worth. It's a shame cause I enjoyed my last one so much and really wanted another when I saw this one for sale. This current state of mind comes from an issue that I'll explain in another thread, to which I feel ...

Re: Rear driver coil spring perch rotted; need advice

So that site was what we needed by the look of it

Yep, they provided the exact part I needed. They do have a bunch of other sheet metal parts that could allow you to replace many of the structural sheet metal points, but that's only if you really wanted to save your car badly. Those parts start ...

Re: Rear driver coil spring perch rotted; need advice

It's fixed, took me about 6 hours start to finish, and it was bad.

Re: common rust spots on 2000+ bonnie

So another spot you will want to add to this list if the hole in the body where the gas tank filler hoses pass through. Since there is a plastic cover that only clips to the hole in that area, it doesn't really seal it off very well. Considering the fact that it's in the wheel well, a lot of debris ...

Re: common rust spots on 2000+ bonnie

Thanks for referring me to look at this thread. I do have a lot of the similar areas starting to rust, the worst being the rockers. I think one side of the engine cradle support is gone already as well. NY winters can be very harsh on these cars.

Re: Rear driver coil spring perch rotted; need advice

That link was even better, they provided a slightly different website, one that actually provided a diagram of that parts.

I have ordered a new spring seat, hopefully I get it soon, I hate having open projects. Good thing I don't drive this car in the winter anyway... imagine if that broke.

Re: Rear driver coil spring perch rotted; need advice

I was legitimately searching for frame parts. I might have found some on gmpartsgiant.com . that may have what you need. I'm in the same boat

You may have nailed it with that website. I'm seeing something very close to what I need, just need to call them to confirm. Thanks for sharing that site ...

Rear driver coil spring perch rotted; need advice

I need some tips on what to do for this, I'm not scrapping the car or pawning it off to someone else either just yet. I'm going to come up with a solution for this problem, it's just the best way to go about it.

What I would like to do is find a way to get a new piece of metal to just weld in there ...

Re: Code P1811

Quick, firm, it's all the same. Hahaha You went with Transgo correct? That's a very gentle shift kit.

Yes I did, it seemed that's what everyone has been using and what has been proven.

I'd say that the crud on your magnet is on the high side of normal.

Still normal, sounds good to me! Thanks ...

Re: Code P1811

Install complete, didn't really find anything else of worry while doing this. Took it for a test drive and though everyone says the shifts will feel more firm, I didn't really feel it. I did notice that they were quicker on the other hand.

I didn't really get on it too much either due to the fact ...

Re: Steering question

Check you TREs, there a chance that they could be bad, or it could be the control arm bushings. Jack it up and start trying to move things that, should not move that are linked to the suspension for the front end.

Re: Code P1811

Finally working on installing the shift kit for this car. Pulled the pan and much to my surprise, there is a ton of material on the magnet in the pan. I have a picture to upload that gives you a decent idea of how much is on there. I'd say it's close to an 1/8 of *shoot* just sitting on it. I have ...
