Oil Pan and Timing Cover Gaskets
So, my car has been leaking oil for awhile. There was so much that I started at the top and worked my way down. I replaced the valve cover gaskets, oil lines, rear main seal, and also the oil sending unit. Well there was still oil. So I put in some dye, drove it a bit and sure enough, the oil pan ...

Tranny not downshifting
Does anyone know why the automatic transmission would not downshift? It started this afternoon. I can manually downshift, but it will not downshift even one gear when you step on the gas hard where it would normally downshift. From a start it shifts regularly from 1st to 2nd to 3rd and then OD. No ...

Re: Failed Inspection
FWIW, I have replaced the front motor mount 3 times now and the tranny one once. Unfortunately, this has become the most expensive car I have ever had on maintenance issues. Tranny rebuild, oil line leaks, new exhaust because of bad cats, leaking coolant by the intake manifold requiring a new gasket ...

Re: Code P0741, Transmission Control Clutch
So, my car was finally fixed. It was indeed the torque converter. Had to replace the transmission mount, motor mount, and did the rear main seal as well of course the rebuilt tranny. Total cost with everything including tax was $3400. This included some heavy duty part that I can't remember ...

Re: Code P0741, Transmission Control Clutch
The torque converter was not replaced before. They said there was nothing wrong with it at the time.
So the car came back to Florida on Tuesday and that afternoon I got the call from the dealership. The torque converter had "blown up" or something and there were metal shavings throughout. The ...

Re: Code P0741, Transmission Control Clutch
Well nobody at the Chevy dealership in Blue Ridge, GA knew how to fix the P0741 error. The people there said since Chevy did not have a Northstar engine tranny combo like I had they couldn't do anything except get a brand new transaxle! After much debate, I ended up having the car trailored back to ...

Re: Code P0741, Transmission Control Clutch
As I started to go up the hill in 3rd gear it would not downshift at all. Not even when I manually put it into first. As it ran out of steam I gave it a little more gas but nothing. I immediately put it into neutral and coasted back to a turn off road. A Chevy dealership here in Blue Ridge, GA is ...

Code P0741, Transmission Control Clutch
Just had to have my 04 GXP towed away while on vacation here in northern Georgia. The "Service Engine Soon" light came on so I called ONSTAR and they reported a code P0741. Something to do with the transmission control clutch (TCC). Before this came on my car would not go into 1st gear. At a ...

Re: Transmission shifting very, very bad
Haven't been on here for quite awhile now. Just read about this shift problems and I have had this hapen to me on several occasions. It seems to happen after I have manually shifted it or when it downshifts when I am passing. When I shut the car off for several minutes and start it back up ...

Re: Torrington Bearing
Well my car was fixed. The torrington bearing needed to be replaced but also a few other parts. The shaft that comes out and goes into the wheel is not supposed to move up and down at all. It is supposed to be completely tight. Well that was moving and causing fluid to leak out. They needed to see ...

Re: Torrington Bearing
Ok, well I am dropping the car off this afternoon. I'll let you all know what comes of this. With this economic situation, it isn't the best time for something like this to happen. But what are you going to do, right? If it needs to be fixed then so be it. Alot cheaper than buying a new car! Thanks ...

Torrington Bearing
Greetings all,
As I was driving home from work yesterday I noticed a high pitch whine coming from the tranny when it downshifted to a lower gear or under high revs. I was concerned so I immediately took it to a Pontiac dealer and one of their mechanics did a test ride with me. He heard the noise ...

Onstar Upgrade/Humming and Vibration at higher speeds
Just had my Onstar upgraded to digital yesterday at the dealership. Has anyone else had to have that upgraded? They said my 2004 GXP had an analog system and that I needed to upgrade if I still wanted it to be functional. Cost me $200. I noticed when I went to hit the Onstar nothing happened! So I ...

Re: So, my Red Rocket has picked up two bad habits
Your hard shifts on the tranny sound exactly like what I was having. My speed sensor had to be replaced. I forgot what it cost but it wasn't that much. You may want to have that checked. Good luck.
