Re: 1995 Bonneville: Bad idle, stalling, shaking, backfire

A bad crank sensor could be the problem, but check the wiring leading down to it first. These were known to have exposed wiring due to oil leaks traveling down the wiring and breaking the insulation down. Replacing the wiring is easier than doing the crank sensor ( I've done it recently ), though ...

Re: Time to Say Goodbye

Traffic here may have gone down because of the active bonneville group on Facebook. TBH, it's been ages since I've been on my computer, which is the only time I visit this site ( Everything else is on my phone ).

Re: What did you do to your car today?

replaced the crank sensor with the hopes of a fix to my starting problems that developed in the extreme cold temps...got to upgrade my 1/2 impact to get the 15/16" bolt out of the crank, but to no avail...

turning the key it just cranks but won't fire. It only starts by opening the throttle. it won ...

She just won't cut the cheese no mo'

So, the Dirt bag is taking a dirt nap. She's become super finicky about starting up. Started a little bit of this last winter when it hit below zero temps and I blew the plenum up using starting fluid like a dummy. Fixed that up, she had run great up until the weather started getting rough, my tiny ...

Re: 2000 SLE Security Question

Nice! I figured there was something wrong with cold contraction...I get the same thing. All summer, almost zero issue with it. Every other start it comes on for me. I may just have to replace that exciter. Can't be too difficult to do...

Re: Rack or ps pump

Have you checked to see if you don't have a problem with a lower ball joint hitting a flat spot and having to "jump" out of it? I would check those first before pointing at the newer parts on the car. Power steering pumps usually just whine at full lock due to strain. If the pump is full of fluid ...

Re: Advice for recent 2000 bonneville 3.8 owner?

It's super likely that the power window issues are accompanied by non functioning power mirrors. If that's the case, the splice under the carpet behind the drivers seat has gotten wet and corroded. Indicator is green fuzz around the harness. It's a poor design by pontiac, almost like they didn't ...

Re: What did you do to your car today?

broke the passenger door handle ( outside ) trying to open it up after releasing it from its icy sarcophagus and then the door wouldn't latch shut. Warmed up the car for an hour and it finally latched, only to find all the doors locked and the car running....Fortunately it was at home and I have an ...

Re: What did you do to your car today?

Pulled a ton of info out of the car with the shops OTC Genysis, got to sift through the data and see what I can figure out in regards to the evap codes that won't go away. Was going to work on the wife's sport trac tomorrow..the drivers side brake drum is hanging up really bad. I had changed the ...

Re: rust repair panels

Bravo. I would probably fiberglass it if I were to have to deal with it since that's what I have available and know how to work with. We have a Ford Explorer sport trac with rusted rockers, and without a welder, plus the absolute lack of supporting panels in the aftermarket except a couple of crappy ...

Re: temperature sensor on dash

Check to see if you can change the controls to heat the interior. If you don't get heat, then the head unit for the HVAC may be faulty. I'm dealing with no heat/cooling control on the drivers side presently. I'm going to have to pull the kick panels off and look at the actuators to see if they are ...

Re: What did you do to your car today?

Time for another oil change..that trip to TX put me down to 25% and the pressure gauge is reading a bit lower than normal, so I'm thinking the oil is definitely due. On a positive note, after discovering that the windshield leaked like a sieve, I found a really great glass guy that replaced the ...

Re: fuel economy

Make sure that your transmission is locking the torque converter at speed. Easy test, get up to cruising speed, tap the brake enough to disengage the TCC lock up solenoid. You should see the engine RPM raise a bit, and then drop as it locks up the torque converter again.

Re: Purchasing 2000 SLE. Need advice

I paid 400 for mine, but I had to put a lot of work into it ( mostly labor, not parts ), but I have my issues with it ( currently a leaking windshield, evap code and security light that comes on randomly ). I would have a hard time selling it for anything more than I have put into it with similar ...
