Re: Looking at buying a GXP

I think the only reason these engines get a bad rep is how expensive they are to fix. Just look at how EVERY 3800 and most 4.3l v6's need new intakes gaskets. It's much cheaper and easier to do that repair, yet it affects close to 100% of those engines. I still see tons of cadillacs on the road ...

Re: Looking at buying a GXP

Closely inspect the driver output shaft seal in the transmission for any signs of leakage. If it looks good it should be reliable. If not, it will need a rebuild. I haven't had any issues other than that on mine. I consider these reliable cars, but I'm coming from a long line of s10 trucks that had ...

Re: My GXP

Nice car, I see you have the Sirius/XM antenna. Are you subscribed?

Supposedly the dealer activated a trial, but the radio never picked up on that. All I get is the demo channel. I talked to Sirius and they wouldn't give me another trial so I said screw it. Gonna be putting a new head unit in ...

Re: Just found a tuner claiming to support ALL years of the

The output shaft bushing in the 3rd clutch housing burned up. It damaged the output shaft, so brand new torque converter and output shaft, all new clutches, everything but solenoids is new. I asked the shop if there was anything they could do, but there just isn't any aftermarket for this beast. It ...

Re: Just found a tuner claiming to support ALL years of the

I just had the transmission fully rebuilt, so tuning is on hold for a while. The car is running REALLY good right now so I'm happier with it. Not sure why but it just randomly tuned itself in and pulls hard. It's faster than my GTP was in every way now. I wasn't so sure at the beginning.

I have a spare GXP shift knob. The metal finish is pretty rough but it works.

Re: Having a weird engine problem *source found, bushing is

Got my car back today! The shop had to do a full rebuild on the transmission including a new torque converter. While they had everything out I had them replace the spark plugs, front motor mount, and the alternator. It shifts smooth as silk now, which I actually don't like. I got accustomed to the ...

Re: Looking at buying a GXP

Disregard. I must be tired or something and this response did not fall in line with the conversation.

Congratulations on getting the car! I just got mine back from the repair shop and it's great to have it back. They're a love hate relationship with the balance in favor of love for most.

Re: 2005 GXP

I don't know what that is. My car is missing everything under the front, and it only looks like one piece in the part drawings. I guess I'll know more when the piece comes in.

Re: 2005 GXP

You're looking up the wrong part number. It is 25764670. The other one (don't even know where it came from) is discontinued, but I don't think you need it.

Re: 2005 GXP

I was able to order the air deflector from gmpartscenter.net. They had to special order it which took a week, then they realized it's a huge part and didn't qualify for free shipping, so I had to pay another $36. It's on the way now.

Re: New 2005 GXP Owner

I'm quickly finding out on my GXP that low mileage is not good for a car this old. Mine is just shy of 90k and I'm currently dealing with a bad transmission output shaft bushing. In the process of removing the axle shaft I found several bolts that were impossible to remove without cutting, and ...

Re: Having a weird engine problem *source found, bushing is

There is a TSB about this exact problem published in 2008. It covers virtually all years, and they make a new clutch housing with revised bushing material to extend life and reduce fluid leaks. I don't have the article in front of me but a quick search will pull it up.

My preferred transmission ...

Re: Having a weird engine problem *source found, bushing is

I'm 90% sure you do have to drop the subframe, so I was shocked when I got that price quote. I'm pretty sure that shop has some method of removing just the output shaft and bushing that may only require removing the side cover. My concern with that method is the repair part is the entire clutch ...

Re: Having a weird engine problem

Well I have some bad news and some slightly good news. After removing the original CV axle I found a lot of side to side play in the output shaft in the transmission. I did some googling to see if that was normal, and the answer is no. It turns out the 4T80e is notorious for the third clutch housing ...

Re: What did you do to your car today?

I ripped apart the driver side of my GXP today. God d***it I hate aluminum control arms and knuckles. The wheel bearing is seized into the knuckle, and the ball joint rivets are seized into the control arm. Rather than f with it for three days I'm just gonna replace the whole control arm. I had to ...

Re: An mpg mystery

I run 87 gas from wherever it's cheapest, usually Sam's club. I do avoid Citgo and BP like the plague though. My car sorely needs a tune up, but doesn't outright miss or anything. It does have good tires and a recent alignment. I also constantly have 100+ pounds of tools and computer parts in the ...

Re: Having a weird engine problem

I have the front jacked up right now so I could poke around and the only problem I can find a severely leaking output seal on the driver side. There's transmission fluid all over that side of the car, and as far back as the back door. On the bright side, none of the boots are torn, there's NO oil ...
