Sounds like a bad solder joint. From what I've heard it happens a lot with these gauge clusters. Usually you can just reflow the solder joints and it will come back.

I don't seem to have any problems with the bosch plugs in my bonneville, they've been running strong since 2006.

There's a bolt on the back of the compressor. I think you have to remove the lines to get to it. Also, I suggest you disconnect the battery as there's a live 12 volt feed to the starter close by.

It's most likely the sending unit.You should look into getting it replaced soon before it starts to leak oil.
