What are the best tuner, air intake and exhaust for a 2000 SSEi. I'm not gonna go drag race it, but for better mileage and some more power, what are the best? I'm getting an Intense Shift Kit, because my computer threw the long shift code, but what else is good? Any suggestions welcome, I'm not afraid to get dirty. (under a car, of course )

How much is the PCM? Like custom tuned or a new "custom" PCM? Why a 180 Degree thermostat? What is stock? 160? Sorry, new here got a lot of Q's. I just want a nice reliable DD, that has a little more power and sounds better, not so muffled, like stock. I like to hear that blower whine.

PCM is 100 bucks from http://www.intense-racing.com Standard PCM would do for you just fine from them, but others will give advice on additional tweaks.

Stock thermostat is 195. Don't go as low as 160 on a mostly-stock daily driver.

The FWI (fenderwell intake) from INTENSE will project your blower whine better.

But not this well:
(( viewtopic.php?f=9&t=87 ))
For that, you'll need a Series 1. ;)

So, i send them my stock PCM as a core? What tunes are best for a slightly modified SSEi? Where do i get a thermostat? Where is it on the motor?

Would I be incorrect to state that a lower temp thermostat would most definately hurt mileage? I could see it if you were trying to run it on regular, but I would say given the price of gas, anything that poses a detriment to fuel economy would not be a good mod to a daily driver.

I would agree with intake and exhaust mods, though, because they can improve economy. I hear one can now get electric water pumps, that couldn't hurt.

I'm not sure if it's still around, but Jet used to make a "six Pack" chip that had six modes to choose from, one of which being "economy". I think that was only for OBD1 cars, though. Cant new car PCM's be reflashed with different maps? I'd have an econ map and a balls out map. I haven't followed bolt on mods for years, though, so I'll shut up now.

A 180 does not affect fuel economy as noted by yours truly. Both Series 1 and 2. I was just running a 180 in the SLE, and I switched to a 195 about 2 weeks ago. No mileage difference has been noted on a ~30mpg car with 3.05 gears.

You can pick up a 94005 Magnaflow catalytic converter for about $60-70 usually, and $58 here:
https://vichubbard.com/auto-part-detail/magnaflow-performance-94006.html
I have bought but not yet installed a high flow cat for my SLE, but it's believed one improves performance while either maintaining or increasing gas mileage.

Cool. I had heard lower temps hurt economy, and those supermileage folks usually run the highest temp they can find.

Maybe on some engines it makes a difference, but nothing I've noticed wallet-wise with my 3800s. These engines are awesome for fuel economy and fuel mileage. Really a shame they won't be made anymore after this year.

Some here believe that a high flow cat will improve gas mileage. I'm one of them, and I've seen the slight effect on my friend's SSEi. I'll soon install a high flow cat on the SLE, and I'll let everyone here know if that causes a change in gas mileage. Probably for the worse because it'll be so hard not to mash the pedal.

Many times basic bolt ons can give you more mpg, IF you stay out of the loud pedal. Changing driving habits are the #1 way to improve fuel economy.

I ran the Level 3 kit from Intense on my bonne, I got a mile or two better, if I could stay out of the loud pedal.

Along with a serious increase in power.

I don't have $1800 to drop in that car, nor do i want/need that kind of power in my DD, being a 16 yr old male makes my insurance high enough already. I'm considering the Stage 1, with the money I earn over the next couple of weeks.
