For some reason my lamp monitor is going crazy. When I hit the brakes, it tells me a brake light is out, but the lights are working, and sometimes it says either a headlight or a turn signal is out, and all the lights work. And then it goes away just as fast as it showed up. Anybody know what might be causing this?

I have a 92 SSEI that does the same thing about twice a year. The lamp monitor will show a tail light out and the bulbs are all good. When it happens, I disconnect the battery for a few seconds and the problem goes away. I think it's just an electrical glitch...a hiccup in the electrical system.

Check your bulb types to be sure that they are the exact ones for your car. Others may look the same, but a different current rating for them can cause the lamp monitor to do weird things.

Clean all your bulb sockets and apply dielectric grease to all bulb bases when you put them back in also. But as Archon said above, even if the bulb LOOKS right, fits the socket, and works, the monitor will set off if the part number is not exactly what it's looking for.

Your ALM may have gotten confused. On the 97 you can reset your adaptive lamp monitor. Find someone with the FSM's for the correct procedure. Sorry, I don't remember how it is done specifically. All I do remember is it has to do with disconnecting the battery and using the parking lamp circuit.
