$67 but I'll take it! Did you replace the gasket? Or do you not have to like I was told?

Did it give a different output sound at all? Just curious

Also how much was it to install so I can get a idea on what they'll cahrge for welding it on

they will leave the stock downpipe on, and cut out the old cat, and weld in the new one. no gasket is touched.
sounds a little louder. enough for me to notice, but not a big difference. most places will charge one hour labor, i called around and found one that charged a half hour ($45)

Having an SE, I believe that you will have 2.25" exhaust. If you want that size cat, you will need a Magnaflow 94005 (link says for a Ford, but it is just a regular 2.25" universal cat)

Any exhaust shop will be able to use a 94006 cat just fine though, but they will have to use adapters for it and will likely cost a few extra bucks.

We have a 94006 on our '03 SSEi and love it. The sound did change quite a bit on our car. It went from barely audible to a nice little growl.

Keep in mind that most of the Magnaflows seem to set check engine codes in the 00+ cars. Your O2 monitoring appears to be much tighter than pre 2000 cars. Some have found cats that will work w/o setting a code, unfortunately they are more expensive to start.

Seems that there's a toss up. Spend on the cat or spend less on the cat and then pick up a modified pcm that has the cat removed and some performance settings in place.

I went to a respected Midas shop in this area. With installation, it came to a bit under $200. They did a good job, with nice clean welds. They even straightened a bent section by the muffler that had been that way since I bought the car. Also...no codes.

So theres a chance that the magnaflow 94006 or 94005 can make it throw some codes off? How highly is that?

it's pretty likely. i got mine programmed out with an INTENSE PCM, and later reflashed with a custom tune.
they won't use any adapters to fit the 2.5" they will just expand the old pipe a tiny bit and then weld it. At least, that's how my shop did it. they didn't charge any extra either. If you want to be sure, just get under there with a micrometer and measure.

Ok I'll call around to places and see what they'll cahrge to put it on and if they'll cahrge more or what for the 94006.

So to get this right my options are: Magnaflow cat, but need to get my PCM tuned OR Spend a decent amount of change for the Cat so it won't throw the codes.

What would everyone pick? Get the PCM tuned? I'm thinking I should probably do that cause if I get the FWI I'm going need it tuned and all so why not right?

if you get a new cat i see no reason to get the PCM tuned. It shouldn't throw a code.

If you decide to go with the Magnaflow universal cat, I would wait and see if it throws a code. If it does, then you can decide whether or not to have it removed from the PCM.
