Is it just that you disable the EGR on a Series 1 L67, and it immediately acts better? No further adjustments? If so, that's awesome.

Yup! No other adjustments besides the CAI but I think in combination, I notice the IAT has dropped significantly, with the cooler charge without the EGR and the reduced exhaust backpressure from exhaust mod, this Grizz cub is ready for more air.....via a smaller pulley.

But I won't be doing that with a tranny that's about to pop anytime! [-X

I mentioned the outgassing and accordian because I've heard these things here many times. It's odd to hear the differing opinion to the common question. Although it would seem that getting the air as laminar as possible to stop velocity interuptions before the screen would be the way to go.

How did you disable the EGR w/o getting error codes?

You mentioned the outgassing and accordian tube because you didn't recommend it and you're just trying to bug me!
:laughing3:

Outgassing of the carcinogenic plastisizers in PVC may be a health problem for the human body but should not harm your engine. Don't you like that new car smell? Same stuff.
ABS also works fine. The only problem with PVC is it might break down quicker in heat. Mine is wrapped with insulation.

Bill, you more than anyone here knows the purpose of the MAF screen IS to create laminar flow caused by the turbulence of the stock accordian tube. The downside to the MAF screen is it presents a small restriction (about 5%)
If the accordian tube is removed and the flow is laminar, like using a straight shot cone intake, ala Bullet, then the MAF screen can safely be removed.

I disabled the EGR by attaching a special ZZP black box to the MAP sensor to fool the PCM.
The pinhole leak on the inlet of the EGR still exists but the valve is closed permanently.
It's amazing how this one little change has really helped this car perform!

Well I always said that a cooler intake makes for a happier engine.

Goad me as you may, there's nothing hidden in my posts. Nor is your paranoia about my trying to cause issues correct.

Back on topic though. Please link the black box. There are some folks that will be interested in this item.

As for laminar..the accordian is known to slow velocity overall due to the air having a lack of laminar flow in the tube. Yes the maf screen straightens the air and creates the laminar flow for the maf. The tube before that, can assist in velocity though. Which leads to the questions and hopefully good discussion. Personally with or without a laminar tube before the maf screen, data collected on my car suggests the screen should be left in place for proper maf measurements. Some people see gains, some people see losses, my car saw power...but bad calcluations leading to lean conditions from troubled maf readings.

As for your outgassing and according crack, I'm not phased. My car found little difference from fully gutted airbox with K&N and accordian tube vs FWI. Do whatever works for the best price is my motto. I read the outgassing and accordian items here and thought it was odd that a "Gearhead" was not following the norms.

Bill, I think I was one of the first to convert to a CAI and eliminate the MAF screen about 6 years ago. I posted pics of my home made cone with plastic elbow about the same time everyone else was trying to buy the first ADTR intake tube.
I have NEVER followed what you call the "norm" as a gearhead when it comes to outgassing and accordian tube/MAF screen use.
The improvement with my intake mods was noticeable. My MAF screen is still out.

It's not always about following the norm. Sometimes it's about innovation. :P

Here is the link for the "black box" that was already posted in my 94 EGR post, but I will include it again for those who may have missed it.
http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix ... &catid=107

It works like a charm without the trials and headaches of reprogramming the PCM. I would have used it for the Bullet but I had to send the Bullet PCM to Intense for the Timing Commander and new Injector calibration anyways.

And this is your son's car? (eventually it will be again) Wow, that is a lot of work in on it, LOL.

Yep, as foolish as it might seem to try and perfect this Bonne, it's all for the love of my son.

I had to get a four wheel alignment yesterday. The left rear wheel was out quite a bit. Could have something to do with a certain curb and small ding on the rim of the wheel.

Other than a fluid change and a new modulator, I haven't touched the trani yet and the struts are tired.

Dang I love those AL7's

Probably won't be fully in the hands of my son for a couple of years yet.

The reason has nothing to do with any wrong doing.......not totally......because he will be going to University for the next five years.
Some of you people know all too well how much money he will need to save to make it comfortably thru.

We figure by the end of his second year, he should be in a good enough position to take over fully, providing he finds good Co-op work between semesters.

Did the Grizz idle OK when the EGR was slightly leaking? I patched mine up and it idles great, but you touch the gas pedal and it burps and misses constantly. Just trying to figure out where to go with this, I need a direction to either intake fuel or ignition before I do any more searching.

It idled fine but would occasionally stall and every few days would throw the SES light on.

I think what was happening was the leak causes a low pressure signal from the MAP sensor so the PCM would command the EGR to open more and more until a high flow alarm was triggered.
This was also confusing the true MAP readings.
It's running so much smoother now that it's turned off permanently.

Stupid freaking misfires/stumbling/whatever you want to call it. Think I could try blocking off the EGR inlet on the S/C and letting the EGR gas into the air? Just to see if it still stumbles... it's OK if it sets a code.

It won't hurt to try it to rule out as a cause of your troubles.

Did you check for vacuum leaks?

Did you scan for codes?
