THIS has been driving (no pun intended) me nuts. I have had this, what seems like, a wheel imbalance on the front right. It happens around 55 mph. Sometimes it’ll smooth out and other times it’s persistent. I have taken the wheels to get balanced and it still was there. I rotated tires front to back and it persists. I am about to :banghead:

Please :helpsmilie: Any advice is appreciated. I’m a Navy vet and on fixed income. Though I do my own mechanic work, I really don’t want to take this to a shop

Sometimes a broken belt can have a tire act up and then smooth out. Can you feel it in the steering wheel? When you rotated them to the back, it was still exactly the same?

The biggest overlooked suspension part on these cars is the control arm bushings.

I put new control arms on it recently and outer tie rods. I don’t feel it in the steering wheel otherwise that would mean tread separation. Basically I’m stumped. Some one suggested struts, but I haven’t addressed them yet.

Maybe a subframe bushing issue? I dealt with that for a long time in my 92 before I figured it out.

How do I check those… Take each bolt out one at a time? And what do I look for?

Have you jacked up the front and checked for play at the wheels? Hands at 3 and 9 and then hand at 12 and 6.

No, not at all.

Play at the wheels, depending on where you have it, could be wheel bearings, Lower Control Arm bushings, ball joints, or inner or outer tie rods.

Wheel bearings will have play no matter where you tug on the wheel. Play when you check with hands at 12 and 6 would generally be ball joint or maybe LCA. Play with hands at 3 and 6 would generally be ball joint, tie rods or maybe LCA bushings.

If you feel play the next step would be to watch what's moving and what's not. If you don't have a good line of sight, record areas with a phone or camera.

Step 1 to any good alignment is to jack the car up with wheels off the ground and tug the ever living sheet out of the wheels to make sure the suspension is tight. Cars with upper control arms are a little trickier.

Is it possible that you might have a picture of these bushings?

I do not have pictures. There is the lower, the upper, the holes in the subframe they go through, and the nuts attached to the body that all have to be in good shape. There are 6 bushing locations. The bolts are the 6 that are easy to spot from underneath at the far reaches of the subframe. Items 6, 7, 8, 9 are the bushings. Google image search for pics. You can also Google image search 2003 Bonneville cradle or subframe bushings for pictures.

This doesn’t help much. What do they moon like? A ring of rubber that goes between the cap washer on the bolt and the subframe??

Take a look under your car. The bushings are where the lower control arm bolts to and swings from your subframe. The other end of the LCA is the balljoint where it connects to your steering knuckle.

I actually do feel it in the steering wheel, but it's ever so slight.... like when I hit a bump or something. But I don't feel ALL the time. I also had it in the air and checked the bushings... some of the rubber pieces on the bottom rotate and I KNOW that is not normal. So I guess I will have to lower the sub frame and check them all. I honestly wish there was a Hi energy material made for these. Then again... it might make the ride more rough.
