So, upon leaving for work today, I heard a loud "pop" from the front drivers side wheel area. I took a quick look, saw nothing wrong, and kept going. But I heard a rattling noise from the front wheel area whenever I went over a bump. Fast forward to an hour ago, when I finally got home and lifted the car up to look underneath. Turns out that "pop" was my spring breaking.

Does anyone know how much this could cost me? I'm going to call my mechanic tomorrow for a quote. Hopefully this doesn't cost too much. The only good thing from this is that the frame isn't as messed up as I thought. It is on its way out, but not quite yet.

I'm still looking to get a different car - which, as of right now, will be a Chevy Malibu with the 2.0L Turbo. Anyone with opinions on it can please share. Thanks!

Pretty common, I see it a lot. I sell good used springs if you're interested. Otherwise you can throw in a QuickStrut for that Monster truck look.

The quote I got back from my mechanic would repair the strut assembly, strut, and spring. All 1 piece, just needs to be bolted on. $280. They said that with how rusty the strut and the mount is, it would probably be better to just replace the whole thing rather than use the old rusty parts.
I'll have to discuss this with my parents (as the car is in their name) before making a decision. The amazing thing is that the front end is still sitting where it should be, even with the broken spring.

$280 for just the one side? You could do this yourself in your driveway with basic tools in less than an hour. You can buy a pair of the same cheap Chinese struts that the shop will probably put on for $114 shipped for a PAIR. https://amazon.com/dp/B00P841F4S/ However, any of these options will raise the front end unless you use an OEM spring. If you let the shop only replace the one side, it will look pretty ridiculous.

I'm sure it'll also vibrate on acceleration among other weird issues if one side is riding 2-3 inches higher than the other.
