While trying to remove the top 3 bolts on the upper strut mounts the inserts are spinning. There is not way to get a hold of them. Has anyone had this problem and what you did to get these out?

I use jb weld for tight spinning fasteners - just have to wait for it to set.

so there are 3 nuts fastened to 3 threaded studs, what exactly is spinning pl?

It would seem unlikely that you'd be able to get JBWeld onto the bottom of the studs, where it would need to be applied.
I'm sure you already know that you'll need to buy a new mount....
Plenty of ways to get the 3 mount bolts off.
One way is to apply enough pressure so that it no longer spins.
Slightly jack the car up at the jack point on the frame, not under the control arm--- just enough to put some pressure on the 3 bolts to keep them from spinning.
Other options include:
Split the nuts to remove them.
Cut a groove into the end of the stud so a screwdriver can hold it in place.

I just had this happen yesterday on a project car. I couldn't get a vice grip to hold the bottom nut (cylinder), it just kept spinning. I ended up cutting off the head of the bolt with a cutoff wheel.
