I replaced the rear speakers in the Passat and somehow managed to blow a fuse for the power windows, which for some reason makes the car not start. Also did my first start by popping the clutch while troubleshooting.

I love pull-starting. It's how we start old tractors with dead batteries lol. Not worth digging the charger out and waiting for it when there's another tractor and a chain right there.

This was my first run in with German engineering on this car. I have dealt with it on my friend’s Audi allroad with the 2.7TT though. Two egr valves and an engine bay with less room than a GXP with double the wiring and hoses going everywhere.

Pop starting is hilarious. When I first got my i30 it was going through starters to the point where I would be looking for a slight incline wherever I parked. I can't count how many times I've popped it in reverse. The scariest was a parking garage in downtown Philly.. lol.

Today I flushed my power steering system in the Bonneville. I was truly shocked at how dark brown the fluid was! I should have done this a long time ago. Following that, I installed a new OEM pump and pulley (didn't want to run dirty fluid through the new one). Unfortunately, they changed the reservoir slightly and the return line needs to be spliced for a little more length. Guess that'll be a morning project once I hit up a parts store.

Keep looking at it..dirty..filthy...they are doing road construction and any way in or out is dirt or mud. Got a carwash coupon sitting in the console...they are supposed to finally lay pavement next week, then I can wash it again. Gotta get those darn cotton wood tree leaves off of it so they don't damage the paint with their decomposing flesh...

Today was another sad day :( Yup... the Bonneville has been parked for the season. The storage facility has space for about 500 vehicles. When I dropped it off today, the owner said I always win the award for the cleanest car being dropped off :) I didn't think taking calipers apart to detail them, waxing wheels and all the other things I do was that "out of the norm"... :dontknow:

Changed the power steering hoses and a rusty brake line in the 98 Bonneville SE.
Bled the air out and was quite pleased during the test drive---til a transmission whine began.
Fluid was a pint low---due to the new transmission line hole.

Amazon Prime offered 2 shipping choices-- $28 for both hoses via 1 day shipping arriving Friday OR free 2 business day Prime shipping arriving MONDAY--what the $#@#$!
Prime is becoming less and less worthwhile. (End of rant.)

Rockauto has the parts with the same Monday arrival.
I spent my money at Rockauto, instead.

Are you out of country or something? Amazon prime has only messed me up twice. Rockauto is still after shipping usually cheaper; but not always. If the part is going to arrive on Monday and the cost is the same, then I go Amazon. Amazon is always on time. RockAuto is not.

Most of my Amazon stuff is not car stuff.

Not my car but I’ve been working on a tdi Jetta the past couple days. Previous owner didn’t put the spacers under the fuel injector brackets. This made an injector blow out of the head and break off the bolt. After drilling and breaking easy outs I said screw it and I drilled out the broken bolt and re tapped the hole. Also improvised for the spacers because they are hard to find since they can’t wear out and ARENT SUPPOSED TO BE THROWN AWAY. Now I smell like diesel.

FedEx delivered the RockAuto parts this morning--3 days ahead of Rockauto's estimated delivery date.

Not unless you consider the suburbs of NYC a foreign country.

I pay $99 for Prime membership, so if Amazon is going to deliver in the same timeframe as Rockauto--then Rockauto gets my business.
Rockauto sponsors the forum--Amazon gives this forum zero dollars in support.

As for Amazon, the order would have been placed before 1 PM EDT Wednesday for "In Stock & Sold by Amazon" items.
Their Prime "tweaks" are devaluing the service.

I think I finished getting the '89 all set for winter duty.
Last weekend I replaced the LIM gaskets (they were as bad as any other 3800 gasket I've seen). Also put new wheel bearings on the front and put the snow tires back on it.

Today I tackled the harmonic balancer, which appears to have failed as a result of my LIM gasket job, as when I moved the car to where I worked on it it was fine...

Image

That's my balancer bolt cheater.

After that, I flushed the heater core on the STS. Jury is still out on that one, the heater core is apparently a known issue for plugging up the bottom half thus giving the driver cold air instead of heated air.

Then I moved my truck back in the garage for some cancer delete thereapy:

It was a long day...

I did some lighting upgrades to the Passat. Yellow leds for the fogs, and then some led H7 bulbs for the highs. It’s almost like I have a light bar on it now.

Today I swapped the winter wheels onto the Passat. Also plugged a tire on the GTO and gave it a final cleanup for the year. It’s going into storage for winter tonight. :(

Shout out to Matt for the spot in the barn. :beerchug:

Wish I had the tools and parts to fix the rocker panels on our Sport trac. They aren't even available anymore. Didn't realize how bad they really were when we bought it...

I had to replace the interior lighting fuse, it blew for some reason. I'm hoping just from fatigue. I can't imagine any reason other than that since it didn't blow the new one immediately.

Replaced a leaky rad in the wife's x-type yesterday. It was stupid easy considering it had to come out the bottom.

On the wife's x-type I replaced the original rotors (75k) and whatever number brake pads with a Powerstop Z32 kit. New rotors/pads/slider boots/lube were only $240 shipped.. with good reviews. I also power bled the system to get the 15 year old fluid out of there.. And did an oil change.

I'm really surprised how easily everything comes apart for a 15 year old northeast car.
