Year and Trim: 2002 Bonneville
Working on a recently acquired 2002 Bonneville ( non supercharged) with a variety of seemingly small issues. Was starting and running fine but with a code for MAF sensor, Oil pressure gauge reading 70psi while running, fuel gauge erratic and reading near empty at all times, Pass Rear window inop.

1. Replaced MAF: all good and code cleared, =D>
2. Replaced Pass Rear window motor: all good. =D>
3. Replaced oil pressure sending unit: still reading 70psi constant? :sadeyz:

and here is where the real problem is
4.Today after replacing the fuel level sensor the car started right up but shut of immediately. Attempted several times with same result. Checked fuel pump and it seems fine, 52 PSI at prime, but can't check running pressure.

I just don't understand how changing the fuel level sensor could cause this issue. Starts easily and shuts off immediately. :dontknow:

Would appreciate any help .......

So much reading later I suspected the Security system was the culprit.

Tried Locking / Unlocking using the key at the driver door ......... no love
Tried leaving key in ignition turned on for ten minutes then off for 15 seconds .. repeat 3 times. Nope
Tried Locking / Unlocking using the Key FOB ...... Nope
Tried using the Panic button ......... Nope.

Help ........... Please ..........

Welcome to the forum. I don't think it's a security system issue, since it starts then stalls.
Try unplugging the brand new MAF and see if it starts and runs.
Start and immediate stall regardless of gas pedal movements was my primary symptom.
New parts today are very often defective.
Sad but true.

Thanks MKMike for the suggestion, will try that next.

However, the MAF was replaced a couple days ago and car ran and drove fine after the replacement.
Current situation occurred after replacing the fuel level sensor.

MKMike ....... you were spot on.

Disconnected MAF and started / ran, reconnect and quit.

I presume this means the MAF is defective?

Glad you tried it despite how crazy it sounds.
Yes, the new MAF sensor is bad.

Hitachi made the original equipment MAF sensors for our cars.
Buy the HITACHI MAF0047 from Rockauto .
It's the same as the original that lasted 100K or so miles.

Even a used OE Hitachi sensor is better than most of the aftermarket MAFs.
RA gives forum members a discount code in their Pontiac Bonneville Club Vendor's forum posts and the prices are quite good.
Amazon is another option if they have it in stock.

The MAF I replaced came from RA, I'll have to go and check which one I ordered. Hopefully There won't be a problem returning the defective one. I'll post up how all that works out.

Plan on putting the old MAF back in till the new one comes in. It was throwing a code but at least it was operational.

Thx again

Welcome to the club!

Just so you know, the aftermarket new MAFs tend to be a little low quality. If it still gives you issues, plan on grabbing a used but good OEM one from Bonnevilles Unlimited.

That's the sad truth.
I went through 2 Delphi MAFs in a very short while.
Finally bought a Hitachi MAF and it has been perfect for over a year.
Hitachi is still manufacturing their MAF sensors in Japan--where quality control is apparently still in use.

Thanks for all the responses. The Hitachi has been in there for about a month and all is well. Appreciate the help.
