I'll be home tomorrow, I'm at F11X right now, packing my bags actually.. ready to come home.

Its going to be a busy weekend. but getting teally back on the road again will by far make it all worth while.

You know...... for what it worth, I think it would be great to see some people take the road trip, our local track is open right now.

Later...

Track is open? See you in 3 days, LOL. Oh, wait. I have school...... Funny story is, when I was looking for my car, my parents were going to Phoenix, and dad said, if we don't get this car, and I find you one in Phoenix, I'm gonna have you fly down and drive it home. I actually wish I'd gotten to do that, LOL.

EDIT: Idiot statement was removed from this post.

Ok? Isn't PDX Phoenix's airport designation, like MSP is Minneapolis's??

PDX is Portland Oregon, where Thomas founded his first club, PDXCGP, our WCBF track rivals for 5 years running. Closely aligned with SEACGP (you do the math on that one).

Phoenix is where he moved, and founded his second club, AZCGP.

Bobster!

Good to hear from you, buddy!

Glad you're finally getting the car back together. And built better than ever to boot. And yes, you are lucky to have friends like Thomas.

I'm not really sure how I missed this thread, but I'm glad I finally got here! Congrats on the awesome engine price, and I hope the cam serves you well. What are your heads? Do you have clearance to run slightly different rockers, like 1.7 or 1.8?

Radomir, his heads are stock, and most people get their LIFT as well as duration from the cam itself. Higher ratio rockers aren't necessary.

That's like buying one shoe too large and then wearing two socks on that foot.

Hello,
It was a long day yesterday.
We made tons of progress, tore down the new motor to get all the odd-ball grand prix parts off it that are not cross compatible with the 97 Boneville etc.
Swapped oil pans, traded up to the 2000+ aluminum pan and oil filter bracket with the oil pressure riser kit..
Installed cam, yep got way inside the new motor.
Installed Valve springs of course with the retainers ZZP calls out for the XP cam.
Got the rockers torqued down and valve covers back on.
Got it back together pretty good.
Today we will install everything else from LIM up and from the timing chain cover forwrd then drop the motor in the car.
You never know, if all goes well, we might start it tonight, if not, Bob & I both have Monday off work so it will be finished Monday in worst case.

Now.. The stupid.../bad news.
I don't even know why but Sony has an option on my camera, don't know who selected, I would imagine it hapened by mistake but all my pictures look like this.
Image
The photo's can be cropped down to one of the squares, maybe I'll take some time but we took about 50 photo's and they all look like this.. sux.. :angry4:
oh well, I guess I'd better get going and continue working on the motor.

We also had a 2001 Grand Prix in the driveway that got:
new radiator
trans cooler
power steering rack, lotsa work there freaking big job.
New TA mount.

People working on Bob's motor:
Bob of course.
Me of course.
Ben - aka Big_News_1
Bill - My friend from Orlando Florida currently in Phoenix on work assignment.

Later ,

Now you can print those out and send everyone wallet-sized engine tear-down souvenirs!

A quick update (more will be done after I load my pics in Photobucket later, today, and have more time to talk about the install).

The good news is, the car fired right up and made no unusual noises (except maybe the slightest burble from the new cam  ). Car is really running nice. Keeping the foot out of any hard acceleration, though, until we have a chance to VE tune next weekend. Oil presure is above 60 and everything seems to be operating normally.

The car did fnially throw two codes last night under normal driving conditions. P0171, the lean bank one code, and a P1811 for hard shift. The P0171 is not really a total surprise, I guess, but the tranny code is puzzling.

That's not an accurate statement. Many people choose to split the mechanical duties of opening the valve between the cam and the rockers. This allows a longer cam slope with a less intense open/close angle on the cam providing better wear characteristics and lowering the accel/decel rate that the lifters/pushrods see. Maybe it's not so common on a 3800 engine, but to say its "like buying one shoe too large and then wearing two socks on that foot" would be a little harsh.

Glad to hear she's back together Bob, I'll be looking for some times out of that thing. You'll enjoy the cam, just watch out for the PO :)
