I was wondering if the SSEi brakes had larger rotors than the SE brakes. I have a lead on a 98SSEi at a junkyard and may be purchasing the whole car for a $150. All that is salvageable are the suspension, brakes, and a few odds and ends. The car has no engine, tranny or interior worth using. The second question is would I be better off doing a F-body brake swap? The junkyard has a couple of 2000+ TA's with good brakes from what my friend told me.

*dang* that was fast.... I just got off the phone with my friend who works at the junkyard and he got the price of the SSEi down for me.

They are generally the same.... But there seems to be a you get what you pay for in terms of quality... Both the Bonneville and the van have the Quality rotors... $50+ each as opposed to 20 something a piece...

Do we (anyone) know this from experience? When I wanted to get new rotors for my dad's 98SE I figured they would be exactly the same brake set up, but all my research so far on part numbers shows different p/n for replacement rotors between his and my 93SE. Is this is a case of parts with the same fit just differnt p/n? I am curious to know :)

for some reason the numbers changed, but the rotors will interchange, I have no idea why. the numbers for my 92 buick come up as 55016, and my 97 SE comes up as 55036, which were like 30 more a piece in the bosch rotors. I compared, and the are identical. I could not find a difference. then I also looked up the cheaper rotors for the 97, and they showed the same part number for the 92. I put the 55016 on my 97, they have been on there for a little less than 2 years with no problems. so I think bill is correct, 92-99 have the same braking system.

but Lee, I cant recall who did a 00+ brake upgrade, but it is possible, and with that, it is my understanding that u can upgrade to the F body calipers and rotors as well.

Go to the bank on it. The CAPABILITY of the brake setup did not change, even if small updates dictated part number changes.

This brings me a sigh of relief. The so called "bendix" (made in china) rotors I purchased in Janruary from summit have already begun to warp. Knowing this opens me up to more quality rotors that should fit. Thanks for the good info guys :thumbleft:
