:dontknow: I hear a popping sound when I press the pedal hard on the drivers side and sometimes the passenger. I don’t know if it’s the calipers or what. Happens driving forward only. I have just about FKN had it with this car. And the fact I have anxiety doesn’t help either. :banghead: :banghead:

It could be either the strut top mount or something else in your suspension since braking will load it differently.

Have you put the front on jack stands and checked for play in the wheels? That will at least tell you if you have a control arm, tie rod or ball joint issue.

New outer tie rods. New control arms. It was aligned. Thinking caliper piston or the mount for the caliper. And it only happens when the brakes are under load and sometime when the front end squats down from that.
Short of that if I don’t find out the problem, likely to douse the thing with fuel and watch it burn. Have JUST …. HAD …. IT [-( :banghead:

It's an almost 20 year old car with cheaper maintenance cost than most it's age and price point.

It sounds like you're convinced it's the brakes, so pull the wheels inspect and check the torque.

Convinced….!? I feel it in the pedal sometimes.

Fixated, convinced, however you would like to categorize it.

It could very well be the brakes. But, since you presumably asked by starting a thread, I just gave you more things to look at in case it's not. The strut top mount is mechanically connected to the front brakes and is a common failure. The brake pedal can pick up on various body vibes and mechanical issues.

Popping from in front can be any number of things, you have to lift it up and start checking what has a play or looks damaged/worn.

Strut mounts make a resounding pop with turning the steering wheel and with bumps and load changes. Even subframe bushings can cause this.

In my case, I didn't torque down my control arms enough and got popping. They can be a little tricky to torque down while on the ground.

Was frustrated over a small thing. Left control arm - forgot to fully tighten the bolt. Now I’ll check the passenger side to see if they’re tight.
