My apologies if this is misplaced. But have been dwelling on one of these two topics for a while.

First - a custom made front trans mount. Had some metal lying around and since i was tired of hearing the clunk sound, i made this (pictures will be posted when i can get to the car). Took some 1/8 in thick steel and used a soapstone pen to trace the outline of a cardboard cutout of the transmissions bolt pattern. Next used a plasma cutter to cut... Fine tuning so it would not hang up. Then welded a 1/4 in thick piece of steel to that to stretch toward the side cover. Took another 1/4 in piece to hang over the subframe. Took an all thread and used a hole saw to cut out pieces of old tire (got jabbed several times by the steel belting) to absorb shock.

It held up well. Took it off to inspect after a trip to Florida. The outstretched arm that connects to the subframe was sagging from engine torque. Cut some more using a hacksaw into 4 triangles. Welded those on and the bends stopped. Surprised myself really at how well it held.
Below are the bolt holes i used. The big 'o' is where a spacer would go. Gets tricky there.

Second - tow hitch. Have pondered on whether or not this could work. By using the front two subframe bolt holes as anchors, mount a custom made hitch to them. This has likely been done i would assume. Just needing to know so i can tow my car behind my Sonoma. Probably better off renting a tow dolly.

Will be cool to see the pics when you get them up.

On the towing part, the transmission pump is run off the input shaft of the transmission. Spinning of the wheels won't turn the pump. If the engine is off and you're towing the car, the transmission won't be lubricated or cooled. From what I understand, any tow-behind non-dolly setup would have to be with a car that has a trans pump on the output of the trans so rolling the car will power it.

Oookay...... Could i tow it with the existing CV axles removed and take some scrapyard inner shafts to keep fluid in? Would prevent the trans from spinning. But i take your point on the dolly.

Just hope my 95 Sonoma will handle it. It's also a v6 with an NV3500. 3.08 gears.

I’m sure the dummy axle stub thing will work for the trans to keep the fluid in since the c-clips will keep them in. You’ll want to also have dummy ends for the wheel bearings because they rely on the axle nut compressing them to stay together. Basically you’ll need axles with no CVs and center shafts.
