I see these posts about ported LIM or ported exhaust manifolds. Is there any power or fuel economy to be gained by porting anything on the LN3? Throttle body? Any upgrades to "newer' style manifolds?

I know I'm kidna limited with the older 3800's being that there aren't a lot of power adders available and I'm not really looking for huge gains anyway... but if some dremel time would help any...

Thoughts?

There is a little room for improvement... And it would most likely give you a little extra added throttle response

anything that improves the induction or removal of air will increase you mpg/hp, aka anything that helps it 'breath' easier. and engine is basically just an air pump in simple terms. however the money and time spent will not be worth the slight increase in mpg/hp imo...

you would be better of swapping in a different engine or buying a different car before dropping considerable money into your LN3

light weight wheels, weight reduction, removing ps and ac belts etc. will give you much larger gains. again not really worth it in terms of BANG for ya BUCK

so basically to your question. no it's not worth it.

Eric... Have you ever replaced the lower intake gaskets on the engine? If for any reason you need to go in there for the gaskets, that would be the time to do a bit of work to the intake...

Gaskets in both cars are original to my knowledge. I don't recall them being all that expensive either. I was thinking about putting my '88 down for about a month or so this summer so I could do some work on it (new timing chain, get the valve covers powdercoated or painted, rebuild the AC system, etc) so I'd consider doing it then.

I don't think I'd bother with the '89 though as I'm wanting to put a Series II into it eventually.
