As far as engine operation is concerned, the only sensor I had to plumb in was a MAP, and convert the EGR module. Most of the work involved fabbing up a new harness for it all. Doing everything myself not only gave me some knowledge, but saved some green as well, and buying a used tuner cut the cost of buying a new one in half. Over all, I had a fully programmable GM-based management system, and data-logging capability, for less than 400 bucks. If you know someone with a tuner already, your cost could be even lower than that. Plus, you would gain boost control capability, and full control of the fuel and timing curve...very necessary things for an engine that was not boosted from the factory.

Added bonus...once this system is perfected, you can graft it to your good ride

well as far as fully programable i plan on burning my own eprom chips I am going to be buying the software and hardware soon as i figure out how much i am spending on an SK tool set. which should be in a week and a half. I could convert to OBD 2 but in the end i would be fighting it more than it would help me.

Regarding water cooling for the turbo, I know that with turbofords a lot of guys run the Garretts with no water lines connected and have zero problems. You just want to stay out of boost for a few minutes before shutting off the engine.

I don't know anything about the turbo you have, but I'll just mention that the optimal size for the exhaust housing on a rear mount is much smaller than if it was mounted on the exhaust manifold.

Thanks for that bit of knowledge, but that is not realistic for me. And its not going to take more than 30 mins to plumb the cooling i would rather have it than not.
