Just wondering if anyone has done it or seen one? Would it even fit? How hard to do?

Just weighing the options for the future. :-$

Pretty dang hard, but if you had unlimited resource (i.e. money, time, know-how), you might be able to do it.... but why? That engine has no modification potential, it's not as fast or as easy as an L67 and it gets worse gas mileage...

9 words. Not worth the cost and modification it would take.

That is all.

An L67 swap would net you better fuel economy, more power, and far greater reliability, with greater ease of installation than the Northstar.

How much would one of those L67's cost for a complete motor/trans combo and all electonics?

Probably be easier for me to get a G8GT instead of doing the swap! (easier to tell the wife what I'm gonna do, I mean)

Not hard at all if you know what you're doing. Not that costly either. But probably easier to just get an SSEi, that way you have the engine and allll of the features.

Whats your skill level? If you can weld and measure things and can understand wiring diagrams completely then the swap probably wouldnt be too hard. I am not a big fan of the northstar but i would consider swapping one in my '88 lesabre if the price was right for a good engine and trans. And it would require the same amount of work that it would take for you to do it.

To answer your orignal question, it doesn't seem as though anyone honestly knows.

No one has tried it before. It would probably require mounts etc to be fabbed. Depending on your available tools and skill level this might be a low cost project that takes nothing but time and a bit of effort. Someone stuffed a 4T80 into the car with nothing but the items normally found in his garage. His garage isnt' the norm though.

Actually, someone put a northstar in a Grand Prix in Minnisota.
Hard, I would imagine.
Expensive, sure, of course.
Can it be done, of course...

IMHO, it would be a much better mod to just go the route of the L67 top-swap.

if you currently have the L36, keep the stock bottom end, do the L67 top swap, its much cheaper, easy to do for $1,000.00
The best part of the conversion from L36 to L67 top swap is that the L36 has lighter pistons & connecting rods, it also has higher compression.

did you ever look under the hood of a gxp that engine is so thight in there and there nothing to mod them and very expensive to fix

i say go L67 the only thing better whit the 4.6 is the sound of the v8
