Looked at a few pages, and they say I can take the screen off to allow more airflow into the motor.. but some people say it will make the car run rough or die. Any experience with this? And if I do take it off to try it, will it go back on?

In my experience, it idles rough. Gains can be felt some places, losses others. General smoothness is lost through the entire range. I've been toying with this idea...

Mine is supercharged.

I am not absolutely positive if series II is the same or not, but series I screens are held in by a snap ring and easily removed/replaced.

It's removable, but it's a bad idea. You're not outflowing at this point, and it's purpose is to create laminar flow to allow the MAF to read accurately. Without it, the MAF readings go all over the place.

Well, looking at my scanner everything seems fine.. gain of ~10hp. Only effect I'm seeing is a slight rough idle.

Nope. That's what it's telling me. I was at 277hp max with screen in, and 288hp with screen out.

It's not a restriction.

And what kind of scanner?

Obdii. And it would if the Pcm hasn't recognized the change yet and tries pulling default values.

Aka: dumping tons of fuel into the cylinders and making it run super rich, not ideal. Do a MAF tune and I bet it won't have changed much.

Rough idle kinda scares me tho. It's not terrible but in the long run idk

Should I be worried about the very slight rough idle? Since it's just from air, would it cause any problems?
