After talking with John at Intense, and him talking to HP Tuners, it has been determined there is no base tune on file with HPT for my car to work from. He is going to try to base the tune on either a SSEi or a PAU.

Quote: "I should still be able to tune a PCM for you, but would need to base the tune on another similar car like an SSEi or a PA Ultra. It may work seamlessly, or you may have a security warning light on your dash, or it may not work at all (though that’s highly unlikely). The results depend on how picky the Body Control Module is (computer under the dash that runs the gauges, security, and HVAC)."

Does anybody here any have any idea which would be the best starting point, or anybody who has managed to obtain a tune for this car? I thought the PAU might be the best starting point since it probably doesn't have the suspension goodies the Bonneville has, but I'm just guessing at this point, and this may have nothing to with it. I'm posting here since I won't hear back from Intense until at least tomorrow. Cheers.

It isn't just the BCM, it'll be the climate control too. Actually, the BCM on the LSS only cares about the security, which will be disabled in the PCM. If the security gets pi$$y, it's easy enough to do away with completely.

On mine, the climate control got pi$$y when I went with a different computer/OS combo. It worked fine, but always flashed on startup, due to different communications protocols on the PCM.

I'm hoping to get this done with a minimum of shipping, so maybe I should just request the deletion of the security altogether, it's not like I live in an area where it is a mandatory feature, and the only time I have ever seen the light was with a wet key.

With the possibility of multiple re-tunes, I'm considering going with a tune from Overkill Motorsports in Toronto, since they're up here in The Great White North, and the border, well you know.

Any best bets as to a base tune starting point, either the PAU, SSEi or maybe a GP? Thanks

Go with a 98/99 SSEi file. That will be the closest.

How hard would it be for you to find a PCM to send to them? They can pull the stock file and tune it and save you the core charge. You would then also have your stock PCM with the stock files in case you need it later.

HPT is suggesting using a GTP PCM and tune. http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15919&highlight=lss They do not even support the LSS in HPT so my first response would not work either.

I've contacted Will at Overkill Motorsports up here in Toronto, and he said he would be willing to download the GMTech file for this car and get it fully supported, I guess that would essentially accomplish the same thing as sending my PCM for him to pull the stock file, no? I had planned on paying the core charge anyway for another PCM.

Finding another LSS PCM would probably be problematic, all I ever see are 88's and LS's, I think I've only seen one LSS, even took a picture, but SC detection really needs the hood up, no badging or boost gauge on the dash(I've already procured one, for free even) my understanding via compnine, is of about 50,000 produced at my plant, only 5000 got the SC.

thanks guys, I'm on a crash course for this topic over here

Multi-edit, still a little groggy...

dont know if HPT can read a OEM BIN file but there is a GM site you can download the latest factory BIN file if you input your VIN... maybe helpfull IF the version of HPT they have reads BIN's. My DHP i know does..

If your GM car or truck is a 1996 or newer, you can easily check to see if there are available updates for the PCM at http://calid.gm.com. It costs nothing to check.

All you need is your VIN.

How to use:

Enter your VIN and click the “Get CAL ID” button.
From the next screen select “PCM/VCM Powertrain/Vehicle Control Module”, then click the Next button at the bottom right.
You will see any available updates for your GM vehicle. Each choice next to “Module:” is clickable. You only have to click once on each section to see what updates are there.

I appreciate the help, that is some great info if I ever decide on getting a tuning suite, but for now I'm going to leave it up to Will at Overkill. He was going to obtain the bin I believe, and get it fully supported. I figured having a tuner in Canada was important, for shipping re-tunes, and coincidentally, Will's parents and mine both live in the same town, 2 hours north of me. I believe he might even bring his tuner when he visits out here, he was just out here just a couple months ago, and there are a number of local GP's running his tunes.

I don't think it's going 2 be ready anytime soon so I'm focused on dressing up some cross laces for winter, and that is sure taking some time.

Are you the guy who was scheduled in at Will's for Sunday? He mentioned a 97LSS was coming in, but he didn't say she was so sexy!

My car unfortunately requires a different base file than yours, being a 98, so I'm waiting to hear back from him to see if he has obtained it from GMTech yet.
