I am thinking to add an intercooler to my mod list after the 1.9 rockers. I like the thought of cooling down my charge air temps. If its anything like cooling down turbo temps the gains are impressive. The things I dont like about the Intercoolers I see for these 3800's is the heater core quality pictures. How prone are they too leaking and their working life? What about the tubes coming out the front, are the seals there a leak issue? I would like to see a better cooling core such as you see in the air to air ones, I would also like to see better coolant hookups besides push on hose and cheap hose clamps. Just some thoughts.

PRJ has what your looking for, cost is pretty high.

Yes very costly, and you need their special
intake to fit it. I read around 2k when finished

Are most of you not for intercoolers?

Not that we are against them, most of us aren't running at a level that actually requires one. This is one of those mods that the hp/$$ is pretty low, and is done more as a safeguard than actual power gain.

An easier, quicker, more cost efficient method is water/meth injection. It has it's benefits but the main drawback is filling the tank after every hard drive, and if not done correctly could potentially hydrolock the motor.

Water/meth sees very little use among serious l67 modders. Intercoolers are always there, are easier to tune and don't strip the coating off the rotors.

Its not very common for bonneville folks to go much further than the typical 3.4" combo, not unlike what I'm currently running. The cost factor does go up pretty steeply after this point.

As for your original question, I don't think a whole lot of people have catastrophic failures. Usually the issue is vacuum/boost leaks between the blower, intercooler and lim.
