Hey so every time i turn on my car the first thing i notice is that loud vacuum noise coming from the air box. i was thinking about replacing it with an aftermarket intake either cold air or short ram. would that take away that loud vacuum noise and would there be and gains or losses in performance?

A FWI will only increase the sound. Do you have a vacuum leak at the airbox? Mine was not noticeable until I installed my FWI.

That is a possible reason, i will check that first because it is soooooo loud. but when you say the fwi will increase sound what do you mean by that?

There will be a very noticeable sucking sound for the first 20 seconds or so after you start it. It will decrease somewhat after that, but still be louder than stock. Performance gains will be minimal, as will fuel mileage increases. It won't hurt anything, but the seat-of-the-pants increase won't be anything dramatic. On the other hand, it won't hurt either. I replaced my stock airbox and the PCM at the same time and the gains in performance and gas mileage were noticed, but not by any wide margins.

Alright and what intake would you recommend? since that will probably be the most likely outcome of this situation.

This would be your best bet.

I put one of these on my car and I love it. As mentioned you get some increase in power and fuel economy. And you will get the vacuum for the first couple of seconds on start up. It will be crazy loud on below freezing cold engine start ups but in like 2 minutes it's gone. Also, the engine will sound a lot better past 3k RPM. You'll get a lot deeper of a growl. Anything below there on the RPM range and you won't notice a difference.

Do NOT use any intake system that says 'short' anything or leaves the filter in the engine bay. Colder air is better than hotter.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but is there a temperature that is "too cold" to use a FWI, or does it not matter? What I mean is the occasional -30* cold snap, is it going to hurt anything with a FWI?

Never had an issue with mine Chris.

Think about it, if your car sits overnight, the stock airbox would be just as cold as an FWI, no matter the temp.
