I bought a differential from Agrazela a long time ago, & now I dont remember the gear ratio. I think he told me it came out of a grand prix gt. is it 2.93 or 3.05? the reason I need to know is that Im fixing my transmition & is the perfect time to install the new differential. but I need to call Intense to get a new PCM with the correct info. Is there any markings on the differential that I could check to know the gear ratio?

If it really is from a GP GT, it is a 3.29 ratio. You could count the gears on the ring and divide by the number on the pinion. At least that's how you count on RWD gears, I'm assuming they're the same, but not 100%.

Do you know anyone who would have HP Tuners? That would be much easier, and you could get a custom engine tune too. I know that's a stretch with you being in PR, but who knows.

Hmm, the only diff's I remember ever having my hands on are:
1) a non-HD 2.86 out of my Mother-in-Law's 1998 Olds 88
2) a non-HD 3.05 out of my 1998 LeSabre
3) an -HD 3.29 out of a 1998 GP GTP trans I bought locally.
4) some other -HD 3.29 I once bought, maybe from Ed Morad?

1) went back into the Olds. 2) I sold to someone within the last year or two, IIRC. 3) is in my LeSabre now. 4) I did sell a long time ago.

Post a pic. If it's -HD, it has to be the 3.29 I sold long ago. If non-HD it could be the 3.05 out of my LeSabre.

Although certainly possible, I honestly can't think of why I would have ever had my hands on a 3.29 non-HD out of a GP GT.

Dude, now I feel dumb. not even knowing what I have. but Im almost positive that it is a 2.93, but I need to be possitive before I call intense.

Sorry -was talking to Andrew.
The only HD differentials for Series II were from 2.93 trans.
The Grand Prix GT didn't get a HD trans until 2006 when the GTP was dropped and the GT went from the non-HD 3.29 trans to the HD 2.93 trans with the L32 engine.

Correction: All -HD's have 3.29 differentials, but they're underdriven, so it works out to be a 2.93. The Grand Prix GT has the 3.29 diff., driven normally.

On the left is a 3.05 Diff and on the right is a 3.29 Diff( also used for the 2.93 )

Pull the Sun gear as I have in the pic... Count the teeth, if you have 34 Teeth its a 3.29, if you have 38 teeth its a 3.05... More than that then its a 2.86

I counted 34, so it's a 2.93.

No no.... You have a 3.29 Diff...

What are you using this for?

Edit.... Nevermind... I see what you are using it for..

If you use it as is, you will have a 3.29 Overall as you drive and driven sprockets are 1:1 which will make this a 3.29

can you explain this to me? I feel a bit lost right now. how can it be a 3.29 & a 2.93?

plus I looked at my RPO codes in the trunk & the car has a 3.05 right now. will a 3.29 be a noticeble change? is it worth the trouble?

In the supercharged cars with the 4T65E-HD, it has a 2.93 gear ratio by using a 3.29 differential and underdriving it with 37/33 drive and driven gears. In the Naturally aspirated cars with that same differential they use 35/35 (tooth count) drive/driven, equalling a 3.29 final drive.

Other way around Ed...LOL

The 3.29 Diff is used for the 2.93 ratio...

The SC trans uses the 3.29 Diff, But the Diff is Overdriven with a 37 Drive and 33 Driven sprocket to make it an Overall 2.93 ratio...

The 3.29 ratio trans is simply a 3.29 Diff using a 35 drive and 35 driven sprockets making it an overall 3.29

Changing the drive and driven can change the Overall gear ratio... One example is that you could take an older 2.84 from the old transmission and change the drive and driven to make it an overall 3.18, this would be an example of under driving to make the 2.84 Diff an overall 3.18...

The Old 2.73 Ratio used in some of the older 3.8 cars was a 3.06 Overdriven to be an overall 2.73

Does this make sense?

Yeah you'll notice a difference... Car will be more fun around town, but you should really tune for it...

Highway mileage will suffer a bit... 26-27 is about what it will do on the highway

Im getting a new PCM from Intese, & a shift kit.

any other sugestions for my tranny? Its now or never cause it will go into surgery soon.

by the way the shop is charging me $1,800 to replace everything including, installing the shift kit, the differential with the PCM, & it has a 2 year warranty.
