Oh balls, looks like in my zeal to upgrade them from stock, I've chosen a bolt that works in every way less one; it needs about 3/16" more threads.

If I double up on the washers, two together on the top (instead of one), and two together on the bottom (instead of one), I should have enough 'stuff' in between the head of the bolt and the nut to not only make all of the parts flush, but to also be able to tighten just enough to where the urethane bushings begin to bulge just a little (in per the techinfo article).

Now my question: Is this a dumb idea? Is this asking for trouble or at least noise? Should I just not chance it and go two towns away to the only place that seems to stock bolts like this to look for one that will work without having to MacGyver it?

Worse comes to worse, I can just put the stock pieces back. (could I do that with the urethane?)

I'm going to go have a beer and hope that yall have had enough time to chime in on my tribulations by the time I've finished.
Thanks.

Forget it - it's close, but I don't want close enough. I want to be able to see everything the way it should look - touching.
I'm going to throw the stock parts back on & look for the 'same' bolt, just with 1/4" more threaded area. I think that will be enough to get the gear just as tight as it should be, without leaving threads exposed against the poly bushings & chewing them up.

Go an inch longer. it doesn't matter in the rear. What's most important is the non-threaded area of the bolt is the same length as stock so it doesn't chew up the insides of your new bushings.

I was able to get new OE bolts from GM a few years ago. $8 I think? IIRC it was through GMPD.
