i have absolutely no idea if there would be any gains for this or not but..... since i'm looking for a new trans could i swap a trans from a GTP into my SSEI for a change in gear ratio then just get my computer tuned?

will there be any benefit from this or is it just a stupid idea to start out with?

No gains, they have the same gear ratio.

As far as I know, the only GPs that had different ratios were the GTs and the Comp-Gs (which wouldn't work in our cars anyway).

I believe you could do some parts swapping to get a different ratio, but you'd have to ask someone more knowledgeable than I. However, no supercharged ready trans that is a direct drop in will give you a different gear ratio.

Swapping to 3.29's would decrease your mileage and your driveability. Ask Jrs3800 about swapping in lower gears in his van...

The FINAL drive is different. Based on the gearing within the differential itself. Not the trans.

The best gearing for the performance of the motor varies by setup. It all depends on what you want.

lol at this point i just want a moving car. it was just a thought and i'm really not looking into it at all nor do i really wanna change the gear ratio. if it woulda been as simple as putting in a different trans (as i'm doing anyways) i would have considered it.

I think with the W body trans its going to depend on the year, and this will be due to the later ones not having the bolt bosses on the back side of the trans, Don't quote me on that, but I think it has something to do with this...

Being that you have an SSEi the GTP will have the same gear ratio... Should be an overall 2.93, But its a 3.29 Diff thats Overdriven to attain the 2.93 Final drive...
