I'm currently borrowing my Dad's car since I sold mine. Anyway, I get in it this morning to drive to work & it turns over fine, I can here the fuel pump working. It starts & sounds fine for about 5 seconds, then it dies. I've tried revving the engine to keep fuel to it, however this does no good as it still dies. Any thoughts?

Alright from what I've been able to determine. The GP's have a 2 speed fuel pump. If the fuel pump relay goes out only 1 speed will function. The high speed to start the car seems to bee working, however the low speed does not, which is why it's not continuing to run. Does anyone have any experience that can verify this possibility?

Thanks

Find the relay and swap in another that's like it. If it works, there's your problem. If not, you know it's not the problem.

The Grand Prixs use a resistor fo put the fuel pump in the lower speed mode. That can often burn out, causing the loss of low speed. This is a picture on how to modify the relay so the pump always runs at high speed. It says up to 2000, but perhaps the 2001 is similar.

Well thanks for the input everyone. But it turns out I'm an idiot! I was trying to start it with a key that didnt have the chip in it. My dad keeps 2 keys on his key chain, because one gets stuck in the ignition on occasion. That way hencan still lock the car. I didn't realize the key mattered. I got home tonight & it fired right up with the right key. Again, I'm an idiot!

Glad that it was something easy.
