The neighbors down the road have a 2000 park avenue with 136,000 miles on it and yesterday the temp gauge and fuel gauge needles swept completely around to the back side of the stop pins are currently stuck in that position.
The radio stopped working as well but now is working again.
I checked all of the fuses and couldn't find anything out the ordinary.

What would have caused the gauges to freak out and how can one fix the guages?

They're behind the pins? I know on my grandpa's 97 (same body style) his mechanic drills a small hole in the plastic and uses a pick to pull them over the pin. I would personally pull it apart and set them, but his way is easier.

I've also read people saying they used magnets to move the needles back to their normal rest positions.

Got it fixed. The magnet trick worked. Just had to find a strong enough magnet to "persuade" the needles back into position. Thanks again.
