I got back from a five day break in Prague, Czech Republic early on friday morning. Got very wet on sunday and monday as the weather was atrocious, but tuesday, wednesday, and thursday were nice, so I got some sightseeing done and saw plenty of interesting motors along the way. Here are some photos of the cars I spotted...

Great pics! It's definitely strange to see H2's in Europe.

Now, I am drooling over that Viper. . . =P~

You didn't call out the Jeep Compass (I think), behind the Ferrari FF.

Sorry, I just don't get excited over those non-exotic (I.E. the Lambo's and Ferrari's, Rolls, etc), European cars. There is a reason Skoda, Lada's, and Trabant's are resorted to jokes.

I didn't, well spotted! I'm pretty sure it's a Grand Cherokee. Plenty of those in the UK so I don't tend to notice them as much.

Fair enough, each to their own. I find these old communist-era relics quite fascinating.

Ladas and Skodas were the butt of jokes here in the UK in the '80s. For example...

Q: What do you call a Skoda/Lada with a sunroof? A: A skip (dumpster)

Q: Why to Skodas/Ladas have heated rear windows? A: To keep your hands warm when you push it.

Q: How do you double the value of your Skoda/Lada? A: Fill the gas tank.

In their defence, those rear-engined Skodas of the '80s were by far the best mass-market cars produced behind the Iron Curtain - not that that was saying much, but still, they have my respect. They were relatively well made and engineered. The Rapid coupe (not pictured) was even considered by contemporary motoring writers to be a poor man's Porsche 911 due to its handling characteristics.

Modern Skodas on the other hand are excellent. They have been under the control of Volkswagen since the mid 1990s and any Skoda produced since the 1998 Octavia is a world-class car. I used to own a 2000 Skoda Fabia 1.4 16-valve hatchback and for a small car it was great. It was well-built, reliable, comfortable, refined, and very well equipped - it even had heated seats. It was also pretty nice to drive. The current range of Skodas are all award-winners, and are very highly regarded.

The reputation of Ladas is mostly deserved. They were very crude and outdated when new, build quality was poor, and not pleasant to drive. However, they were tough as old boots, and were engineered to withstand Siberian winters.

Trabants are hopeless cars, but eccentric and quite charming!
