This has been a LONG week! Started with the Intense 3800 / WBody gathering down in Detroit last weekend, then had a surprise birthday party for Heather where she got her birthday present... I arranged it to have her best friend Shelby fly here from South Carolina for a week. Shelby is Tracy's daughter (Singscountry1967, former moderator here)

Thursday we put about 450 miles on the '03 driving around Michigan showing Shelby around, we left Sanford and drove up to Grayling, to Traverse City for lunch. We drove around the Old Mission Peninsula, TONS of wineries up there! Checked out the park at the Northern most point there, walked out on the dry ground that years ago used to be Lake Michigan. From there it was off to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, Leland to check out historic fish town, then down to Manistee to watch the sun set over Lake Michigan, down by Ludington then finally home by around 12:30 am. This was basically our route for this trip -Michigan tour

Saturday it was time to take Shelby back down to Detroit for her flight home..... oops... guess she was never notified that her flight was changed from 8 PM to 4 PM, so we were LATE! She was able to catch the next flight home free of charge at 8 AM, rather then drive home two hours and have to be back in Detroit at 6 AM, we decided to just stay down there for the night, have a little hotel party for the boys. Shelby ended up getting a call that night that her grandfather had passed away (had a major stroke a week or so prior) and she needed to get to Buffalo. Of course, to change the flight last minute was about $500! So, we drove her halfway there and met with Tracy to drop her off to get to Buffalo. This was a very exhausting and unplanned trip, not to mention the first real trip for the '02 SE. LONG day!

Anyway, finally home around 10 PM last night, and had to get the boys showered and ready for school the next day!

Some pics along the way as well :beerchug:

These are really the only pics we took of the whole trip on Saturday and Sunday, at the hotel Saturday night, Cadillac ELR test mule.

All said and done, it was a VERY long and exhausting bit of driving, over 1,400 miles total, much of that unexpeted, but we made the best of it. It was a lot of driving, but I enjoyed it all and both the '03 SSEi and the '02 SE performed flawlessly. The '03 ticked over 247,000 miles on the trip and the '02 hit 244,000. Shelby is sad, but was in good spirits and is now home in NY with family. Can't wait for our next random trip!

Lovely photos!

That Cadillac ELR is one heck of a great sighting! I don't think I've ever been lucky enough to see a disguised phototype of any car out and about.

Looks like you had nice weather and a good time! I was just in Manistee a couple weeks ago fishing, it's nice there.

Leland is my favorite summer hideout, we stay at a place on the hills overlooking Good Harbor bay and the Manitou islands, go kayaking, etc.

I almost expected those all to be reflection shots off the Bonneville's door...

Heather's birthday was great fun and it was awesome to be a part of the surprise for her. Looks like a fun time, though sorry to hear about Shelby's grandfather.
