So the wife is in a wedding in her hometown of jackson ga, just south of atlanta. We decided to make the trip in two parts we went to visit my grandparents in tallahassee and the next day made our way into GA. When we were almost to the interstate i heard something slapping the fender i park and call a tire service and this is what we find. Image

Aparently i really need an alignment cause both front tires looked like this, so i buy two used tires and get on my way. Well about an hour into driving check tire pressure comes on the DIC. Which i dismiss as the new tires not having the right pressure, well after parking and finally getting to where i am staying i find that one of my used tires has leaked out and when i put air in it i can hear it leaking out, what a frickin trip

That tire should have been replaced a long time ago, even if the alignment was perfect.

Stop taking those corners so hard. ;)

Good idea, the worn part is the inside of the tire though :S

They were probably reversed at some point, the tread doesn't look directional.

Or his alignment is that far off....

I really think it is since whoever had the car ran 245 45 tires on the stock swoopies i have a feeling all of my tire issues go back to my alignment being off, either way i got another tire to ride on and after my budget recovers from this trip an alignment and struts will follow

It's pretty easy to check the alignment yourself you know.
Use a carpenters level for camber and caster to give you a rough idea.
Use two 8 foot long 2x4's blocked up about 6" up against the rear wheel and the front wheel on each side, then use your eye. Your eye is pretty accurate. You can then measure across for toe in. Of course you need straight 2x4's or 2x6's

The problem is that adjusting the alignment requires loosening the strut and/or tie-rod ends.

It has nothing to do with different sized tires, all about alignment.

And to everyone, those tires are UNSAFE. If there was any serious rain you're not in control.

What tire pressure did you run? Treadwear down the middle like that points to overinflation.

I used to run too high of pressure by going right at max cold that wear is reflected on these tires still. since these are 44 psi max I typically run 38-40 now. I don't like how the car rides when tire shops set them at 32 or 35 it feels mushy to me.

Yeah, that will do it. 44 (Or whatever the Max Cold is) PSI should only be used when the tire will be seeing the maximum (or near it) weight that the tire is designed for. Otherwise you will wear the centers out quick.

:eek2: 35 seems pretty firm to me

I'm new on here and have just been browsing around. I saw this and wanted to comment. Wow 44 PSI is so high! I would think that would feel like you were riding on bricks or something. I normally keep mine around 34 and that rides pretty nice to me.

:withstupid:
Ya some people like the extreme pressure cause they don't mind wearing their tires center prematurely........and it makes them real easy to spin and make smoke shows.
36 psi cold is more than enough.
