1. Don't dig up old topics. Based on the content, most mechanical topics over a month or two old are not appropriate for digging up unless you're the topic author and have an update. When you search for stuff, don't revive the old ones. Start a new topic and link back to the older one if you need to. This keeps the information fresh and current on the board. When an old topic gets dusted off, people end up re-reading it, thinking it's a new topic they've missed the first few replies in. It causes frustration when they look at the post dates and figure out why. Look at the post dates before replying!
2. Don't Private Message technical questions to members. This defeats the purpose of a 'Forum'. The information should be posted publicly so: a) Everyone has an opportunity to reply (varied points of view). b) New members can search and find the information. c) Other people can learn from the information. d) 'Veteran' or 'Gearhead' members don't get swamped with private requests for help.
These two reminders are to help keep our board well-organized and fresh in content for all of our members, as well as unregistered guests that find help here.
