2002 Bonneville 3800 Series II 139K miles, former company car, followed all
maintenance service points by mileage, including oil/filter change, coolant flush/swapout, etc.

Really enjoy reading the forums over the years. Have a problem am pretty sure happens a lot from other postings, and I did
try to find those with a search, and getting it wrong.

OEM Delphi Alternator 105 Amps. Bench test working properly.
Starter replaced (was bench diagnosed bad and had been draining battery). New battery/ correct one 800 cranking amps.
Security/Passkey works fine. Key in ignition chime comes on when door opened.

Turn the key to ON. All the dash lights come on. Then Turn to START, and the dash lights go out, and nothing happens no starter cranking.
The dash lights come back on when I turn the key back to ON. Leaving the key in ON long enough and the rear air pump comes on , so there
is communication (as i've read, that airpump fuse shared with power sent to alternator)

OBD2 cannot link up. It is powered fine, has power.

Any suggestions on what electrically is going on and what to check?
Have not checked all the fuses in the front or rear block boxes. An inline buss fuse out?
Thank y'all so much. This Forum is a treasure of knowledge for a shadetree home mechanic farm boy. :helpsmilie:

I would look into the ignition switch. Iirc, there is an ignition fuse under hood or back seat - check that first.
so, is the security light flashing when you try to start?

The key-- the passkey is recognized. After turning the ignition key off, then removing it, exiting the car
and closing the door having manually locked it using the door switch--- the interior lights gradually dim out
and the little red security light near the radio/CD/controls, flashes intermittently in the dark.
So, the security circuit-- I think, is activated.

When getting in the car, put the key in ignition, turn to "On" -- dash lights up, Voltmeter shows full 12.5 or so
charge on the battery, in the center of the speedometer "Security System" comes on in yellow, and a little
below and to the right "Check engine" light is on-- Both of these steady (not flashing).

Going to check the ignition fuse per your message, and get back to you.Got a full fuse diagrarm
from a website that describes fuses fully in the engine fuse block and the back seat one-- so will find that one and
test it.
Thanksgiving intervened, and family still here. Thanks for your message. Happy Thanksgiving!

Ignition fuses are all OK, the minifuses- tested every one on both fuse blocks and then all IGNITION and Starter1 relays-- using another battery and measuring ohms between 87 and 30 on each relay. Again, all relays test OK

Did an OHM test on the connex between the alternator B post and the positive plate/post on the engine block to check to see if there
is break or if an in line fuse is there is it blown. If the alternator cannot make a connection to the battery, then wondering if this is what would stop the cranking and not allow the starter to start? The alternator could be getting the "signal" to activate, but it doesn't complete the circuit. Got a fairly lousy Haynes manual, but does have charging starting system wiring diagram.
The Ohm reading is ZERO.... Nada between alternator and the positive post on the under the hood fuse box. Maybe has an in line fusible link am just not seeing (not being a pro)-- gotta check this. Going to post the original topic, and relate it to where i'm at now, after today's frustrating effort to relearn the Passkey III.
