Welcome to the club! I would certainly change all fluids (Oil, drop trans pan, coolant) and give the car a good tune up with plugs and wires. See if doing this changes your readings in your gauges. If not, I would try tracking down some wires and see if anything is corroded or dirty and try cleaning those.
Seems like a pretty fair price. The car is actually pretty low mileage considering the year! Nice to know the cars background since its been in the family its whole life! Anxious to see pictures when you post them!
