i was at autozone yesterday (no flames, please), and when i was checking out, the guy behind the counter told me they were running a special on fuel injector cleaners. i told him no thanks, i just ran some in my last tank of gas (which i did), and he said that they work better if you use them for several gas tanks in a row. i always figured on going by what the bottles said to do, and i usually get the ones that say to use them every 3k miles.

does anyone have any info on this? was the guy just trying to get me to buy a bottle of chemical, or is it actually better to run them consecutively?

I prefer a double-dose on a full tank once a year. I can tell you from the number of times I've pulled fuel injectors (not just on my two cars either) that once a year is more than often enough.

Modern fuels have appropriate detergents in them that would pretty much put FI cleaners out of business if it weren't for sales tactics. Every GM mechanic would tell you that FI cleaner is basically a waste of your money.

LOL listen, i work at autozone and the only reason he offered it was because he had to. autozone gives us a new checkout item every month that we're required to harass customers to buy (we ALL hate it). that gumout injector cleaner is the special for this month.

and wren is right, modern fuel has so many additives you don't need to do it more than once or twice a year. besides, the cheap crap like the STP cleaners are basically like putting gas in your car, there's nothing special about them. i run the lucas fuel treatment through my car twice a year and call it good. also a lot of people stand by techron

I use Techron with a brush to decarbonize combustion chambers and valves when I am rebuilding engines. It does a pretty nice job.

The regular Techron is over-priced STP. The Techron Concentrate makes a noticeable difference. If you feel like Amsoil, I've heard excellent things about Amsoil PI. Such as it's better than Techron Concentrate.

Any of them, put them in on half a tank and run it until you have about a gallon left.
