Anyone in the club use these?

I'm talking about the one that sticks on the side of the oil filter.

I was just wondering because JEGs has for our application for $35.

Would these have any benefit when used on a daily driver?

Wrong place for it. Steel and Iron are heavy. They settle to the bottom of the pan where the pickup can't suck them into the filter.

I have a hard drive magnet at the bottom of my oil pan. Before I drain my oil, I gently move it to the drain plug area, then pull it off, leaving what particles might be there directly in the stream of draining oil. Pull the plug, it all comes out, including microscopic particles you'd never be able to see.

Then I put the magnet back near the center of the pan.

Doesn't work on 00+ aluminum pans, though.

Nope...I'd assume that's why it is designed for the filter application. I don't think it would work as well, because of the reasons Will gave. It's unlikely that all of the particles would make it up there.

If you really wanted to, you could add magnets on the inside of the pan.

I had magnets on the outside of my transmission pan on my old 99 Bonnie. When I pulled the pan to change the fluid, it was amazing how many particles had collected where the magnets were.

For those with aluminum oil pans.......

......try the hard drive magnet on the drain plug, folks. It's at the bottom of the pan also.
(it'll work better than a magnetic plug from the store, many of those are quite weak).

Or simply clean a spot on the underside of your pan and RTV or Epoxy the magnet in place. If you use RTV, you can still pull it off for oil changes like I do. Even duct tape would probably hold it in place on a clean pan for quite some time.

An even better option would be to epoxy a thin piece of sheet steel in place permanently for the magnet to hold to.
