1998 Bonneville SSE with a knocking motor?
The good:
100,000 miles
Excellent condtion leather interior with AL7s. I was shocked at how nice the interior is.
Exterior also looked to be excellent but it was raining so it was kind of hard to tell.
Tires looked good. All four are Goodyear Assurance.

The bad:
Sun roof isn't closing properly.
The knock doesn't sound very bad but the oil pressure just about drops to zero at warm idle. Probably will need a crank & bearings.

Start at 600, but keep 900 as a high-end number.

No more than $500. 11 year old car with 100K and a knocking motor. H and W-bodies are a dime a dozen around here.

I'm currently looking at a Regal with 100K and a bad motor. I'm willing to go as much as $400. The people think it has a cracked head. :laughing3:

I say about $500-$700. I paid $600 for my 1995 Eighty Eight LS with the motor blown. It had 99,000 miles on it at the time. Anything under a year 2000 with that big an issue should go pretty cheap.

He's asking $1,300 & I'm considering offering $1,000. With the motor fixed it should be worth $3,000 - $3,500.

I have to go with the $500 club.

At 100K the engine should be fine if it was maintained; the fact that is is dying makes me believe it was not well maintained. What else is about to go wrong from lack of maintenance?

I think you could get 2000-2500 out of it... considering you can pick up 00+ SSEi's for around 3500 nowadays

I'm in the 500-600 club

$400 tops.

a '98 bonneville (non-sc) is worth around $2000-$2500 with a good motor...factor in $2,000+ to have a shop rebuild it, possibly QUITE a bit more.

I mean how do you know the transmission is still ok? hard to say if the motor does not run..again a $400 venture, since the wrecker will probably not give you more than $100-$200.

Well I paid more than most of you would have & $100 more than I wanted to. He was asking $1,300 & I called him back yesterday and offered $1,000. He then said someone else was coming to look at it at 3:00 he wanted to wait & see what that guy offers. So I went & took another look at it & then repeated my offer of $1,000. He said $1,100 & I said OK if he would deliver it since I didn't want to put it on the road until fixing it. He agreed & drove it up today.

I'll post a video of the knocking later.

Hans - I was able to drive it & the tranny seemed fine.

At $1100 it would have to be in 100% rust free perfect shape. Being that you save on labor and the typical L36 in my parts runs about $500 (I would always want a warranty on an L36), You'd be into the ar for $1,700 after motor install and misc things like oil and coolant if you dont' pull the upper or do gaskets.

In my area you'd be lucky to get $2500 max from a Bonneville.
