For your regular off the shelf oil 3-5K is about right. the oil breaking down doesnt have so much to do with oil life as the additives do. What really makes you change your oil is how long the additives last, they dont really last that much longer in Synthetic. Fram is by far the worst filter out there.

I use the OLM on my Lacrosse. I usually change it in the neighborhood of 10%. I take my car to the dealer for its service. Because they charge only a few dollars more than the 10 minute lube & oil. My service advisor told me that the OLM is bad and shouldn't be followed. I asked another dealer in town and he said that the OLM works great and he says that he recommends that his customers use the OLM. I just figured that I will follow what the Owners Manual says.

I'd rather trust the engineers that designed it than a service manager at a dealership. Call me crazy.

And Zin, change it whenever you feel like it, as long as it is before 0%. I'd recommend 1-20% personally.

From what I heard the Lacrosse starts whining about "CHANGE OIL SOON" in the neighbor hood. So perfect.
