It is now that time of year to change my wiper blades and I want to replace them with ones that look like the oem ones. At kragen I can get them for 18 per blade. They are called beam type blades. http://www.tricoproducts.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=5153&location_id=5214 Does anybody have these? Mine has had these since I bought the car. I can get the regular type but I am wondering if the cost is worth it if there is a big advantage or what?

Holy @#$%!!!! I've never seen so many different styles/types of blades before.

http://www.tricoproducts.com/index.cfm?location_id=65

I thought there were only two styles (that I've used). Regular and Winter Blades. Now they have all sorts of flavors.

Image

I usually get about 3 years each out of my two sets of blades before they "fall off" the car. This new style, that you are looking at, looks like they would do a nice job all year round. I would consider them when I replace my present blades. As far as cost goes, parts stores generally run sales on certain types of blades. You might be able to save a couple of bucks if you catch these blades when they go on sale. But if you can't see where you're going now, pick up a set "for the team" and let us know what you think of them. They might be actually worth the added expense.

I swear by Teflon. Anything else and mine make horrible noises as the wiper drags across the windshield.

Get the Bosch, they are worth the money over the Trico, same design, better materials, but it makes all the difference. Have the Bosch's on every vehicle my parents own, they work excellent, have tried the Trico's, but they aren't as good.

I like wipers that are one-piece, no wind lifts.

I have Bosch Icons, pretty much the same idea (that I can see/tell anyways). I like them.

Does anyone know who makes the GM OEM original blades.
I still have my original 8 year old blades and they work perfect.

Silicone is the best material IMO....... (.Y.)

Love the Bosch version of those. Got a pair on the delivery truck, my son's SUV and my '88 SSE.

I just use the Bosch Micro-Edge + or whatever they're called. The highest priced Bosch blade that's not a one-piece. Silent, work in any weather, streak-free, and they last for a few years. Haven't tried the higher-priced blades yet, as I see no reason to stray from what works.

My VW has the one piece blades OEM front and rear. I like them, and actually am replacing them today.

I bought some pricier bosch's, most likely microedge, for the '93 and they were great. Best thing you can do is spend a little money, and keep the windshield reasonably clean.

Keeping the windshield bug free is a biggie. I use Invisible Glass in the spray bottle and Steel Wool, 0000# (Yes, it does work, no it doesn't scratch), and then wipe off with a paper towel (shop rags in the box are cheap and work the best). The Bosch Icon is a great product, as i said before. Have had them on my Tahoe for a year, work great, have had them on our truck for almost 2 and they are still really good.

See how you like the Icons in the winter.

The only blades I refuse to ever use are the cheap Anco blades made of plastic. One fell apart on a cold and snowy night. Had to fight with the blade to get it back together. Wiper blades shouldn't fall apart.

Or get Rain-X and never use your wipers again :)

Except when it is very lightly sprinkling and the tiny drops don't roll off....or when it is snowing...

I've only used Anco blades on the '93. I had trouble finding the blade that would fit the OEM Wiper Arm because I love the body colored wiper arm with that little spoiler thingy...too bad the '00+ wipers aren't similar, or even hideaway. But once I found the Anco one that fit I stuck with it. They haven't ever given me problems, though like I said I rarely have to use them with the Rain-X treatment on the window. Only problem I had once was one time when I thought it was all snow on my window and turned out to be ice and it scraped them up.

:stupid:

Yeah, I use Rain-X with good results Except, like you said, when there's a light mist. I also try to put on a coat of Rain-X just before the winter so it's easier to remove the ice build up when the rain freezes on the windsheild while it's parked outside at work. The ice is easier to remove. Sorry (again) to get slightly off-topic.

I was told my two different people I know who use the Icons in the winter, that they work great.

What has your experience been with them?

I am not a person who uses the wipers to clear ice off my windshield. I never turn on the wipers until i scape my entire windshield. I am very uptight about that.

Didn't mean that in a sarcastic way. All I meant was that all the people who just got them and are singing their praises should wait a bit and then see how they like them.

To answer the question, my friend's van has one (he's cheap) and I cannot see out in the rain when driving his van. Much prefer the traditional style with a good design/implementation.

Really? I've driven 1 full winter with the Icons and love them, and they work great in rain, etc. I've never had an issue with them, ever.

It might be the fact that he bought cheap ones for the van.

Back when contour blades first came out, I got some cheaper walmart ones, and they streaked from the beginning.

My Bosch ones cost me $42, and have worked better than any other wiper I have ever owned.

I am thinking it's just a matter of: you get what you pay for.

But, with that being said, I will update my wiper situation as winter sets in.
