I'm really torn on this. I came across a 2004 GXP with only 36,000km (22,370 miles). Asking price is under $8,000 Canadian. I've always wanted a Crimson GXP with a pewter interior, but finding one of these that's in good condition with low mileage is becoming less and less likely.

I went to look at the car today. It's blue with a taupe interior (neither of which are at the top of my wish list). It was purchased by an older couple back in 2004 in almost new condition. The interior seems to be in very good condition. No marks on my cursory exam of the seats and door panels. The exterior has has a small dent on the front passenger door that could easily be fixed with PDR. There is no damage to the finish. Another small area on the same door looks like some paint transfer took place with another car, but there is no dent and it could likely be polished. The rear fascia has some scuffs on it, some deep enough to warrant refinishing. The wheels are also in very good condition with some light curb rash on the front passenger. The engine sounds great, but I didn't have time to take it for a drive. Tires are good, it had a recent oil change and there are very few miles on brakes services only a short time ago. Even the headlights are crystal clear. Except for the limited amount it was driven, it was always garage stored. Another huge plus is that it was never smoked in. I wouldn't buy one that was. The windshield is original and in great shape. The GXP door sill plates both need to be replaced because of marks/dings.

The only "option" is heated front seats. There is no HUD, CDX, sunroof or XM (which wasn't available in any Canadian car until 2006). I'm not disappointed about the sunroof given all the associated problems. If I really wanted the other options, they would pose no challenge for me to add.

I'm really stuck on what to do. I already have three cars and storage space is very limited. I live on a snow route and through the winter, parking bans can be/are declared. Vehicles must be removed for 72 hours to allow for plowing. I'm just not sure where I'd put a fourth car. I contemplated selling the DTS and replacing it with this one. The DTS is my winter car while the STS and Bonneville are in storage. I just don't think I'd want to turn such a nice Bonneville into a winter car.

What to do, what to do?

BTW, the seller was really impressed with my current GXP :). Had to give myself a pat on the back for that one.

Edit: Spelling/wording (note to self... don't write long-winded posts in the middle of the night!)

Wow, that is quite a dilemma. Half of me says to jump on it, the other half says run away because Northstars don't do well when loafed around most of their life.

Wow. What dilemma. Is worded correctly. How many miles are on your Cadillac you use for winter driving. I have always seemed to have a " storage " problem. Good Luck on whatever you decide. Keep us posted.

To be honest, you already have the coolest GXP around. It would take so much to get a normal GXP onto the level of yours, they're hardly comparable. At this point it just seems like you are chasing a color combo!

I wouldn't bite that bullet, but that's just me.

I wouldn't. Keep the DTS and let it slug through winter.

Thanks, Carl. That's a huge compliment!

There is about 205,000km (127,000 miles) on the DTS. I just started to notice a new problem the other day. Merging onto a highway, I felt a shudder under rapid acceleration. When Idling, I also notice an intermittent clicking noise which I haven't pinpointed yet. One shop suggested it may be either a torque converter or cracked flex plate. The transmission fluid was changed about 5,000km ago and at the time, there were no concerns of any large filings or other debris in the pan. I'll have this looked into once I pull it out of storage in the fall. Definitely a concern though, depending on what it'll cost to service. There is rust in some places beyond the point of reasonable repair. I have too much into the car to make it worth selling, so between these two issues, it seems that using it for winter is the right choice. Mechanically, other than what I mentioned, it's in great shape. The interior is also very good.

I think I'll have to pass on this Bonneville, as much as it would be nice to have. If it was Crimson/Pewter, I wouldn't have left that evening without giving him a large deposit. With the colour combination, I just don't think I'll love it enough to take the extra hit on insurance and getting it to where I'd like it to be body/paint wise. It does only have one of four available (Canadian) options for the GXP which also a factor. I'd like another one that I could leave completely stock, but in near new condition. If I had to add the options, it wouldn't be "true" to this. Lastly, I'm already paying $1,300/year/car for storage. I just can't see absorbing more storage costs unless I'm absolutely insanely crazy about a vehicle.

Thanks for the input everyone, it did help with my decision.
