I have a small antifreeze leak coming from under the thermostat housing.
I am going to install a thermostat gasket that I ordered.
I believe there is not one on there now.
Did Pontiac not use a gasket under that housing?
Thank you.

on my 2000, there is an o-ring in a groove surrounding the thermostat - check to see if yours is in good shape.

you can see both above......wait 2 seconds for the actual pic to load: its from the 'other' site.

There should have been one there (I assume), but if it is leaking from there, then there is not one present. I dealt with the same issue about 3 weeks ago. Make sure you clean the thermostat and the housing surrounding it. It's an easy fix.

There isn't a paper gasket between the housing and the intake manifold. There is an o-ring around the thermostat. Make sure both the face of the intake and the face of the housing are clean and flat, and clean them with a scotch-brite if they're not. You shouldn't need a gasket unless something has gotten warped or something.

I just changed the thermostat and gasket on my 96. It was a paper gasket that ripped in half when I removed the neck. Half the gasket stayed on the block and the other half stayed on the neck. I scraped it all off, installed the new t-stat with the o-ring properly seated and then used some red gasket maker on the neck and reinstalled the whole thing just to be sure. It has not leaked.

I added some RTV, even after cleaning the mating surfaces there was a tiny trickle of a leak.
